The Bankhouse

The Bankhouse Café Bar
I have put a local ale on tap. starting with a couple barrals from Lymestone brewery, which is brewed literally 8 miles away. Will be looking to do more in the future if the interest is there for good quality local ales.

Hi and welcome Bankhouse.
I haven't been in since the close, but hope to shortly as I used to like the old place.

Can I suggest however that you proof-read your postings, as a significant amount of errors from a business always puts a doubt in my mind about the professionalism of the place - I am sure it isn't the case, but others may have a similar view and it would be a shame to deter any clientel for the want of a spell check.

Best of luck.

Should that not be 'closure' ?

Close does not sound right.

I went for a coffee Saturday to check out how it was since i last went when it was the previous owners, it was dead in there but the thing is, nothing has changed (other than the cheap looking leather sofas squeezed near the bar) still the same furniture which was a plus for me as i had always loved going The Bank House.

The thing is, whilst i was there the poor bar staff had to turn a fella away because he had a 5 year old girl in toe, and not long after had to turn down three people, because they were with a child in a pushchair.

I had heard it was an 'adults only' place now, but to see that in action was a little unsettling.

The Bank house previously didn't have this rule in place (am i right?) and if they didn't i never knew it a problem when i went for a coffee in there, screaming kids etc is what i mean.

Seems business suicide to me, these people will tell plenty of their friends and family about their experience!

On a positive note, the food i saw coming out looked great, i will be back to sample the menu soon.

Happens a lot, I remember one place kept me waiting for 10 minutes at the bar then told me they didn't let kids in, despite the fact he'd seen me come in with the little un and could have easily mentioned it whilst serving other customers.

Needless to say, never went back with or without kids.

Personally speaking it's a plus point, so could equally well actually attract custom.

I've only been in once and there were only a few other people in there - "ladies who lunch" types and then a middle-aged couple. I did think the no kids rule was a bit strange - I could understand it in the evening but no real need in the daytime and they're limiting their customers somewhat, The food was excellent though. Shame the toilets weren't, especially given the decor in the main area.

Oh, I definately agree. I used to hate going to places where sprogs were, not a chance! I suppose it depends on your customer base, most over 30s tend to have kids nowadays so is a tricky decision.

Maybe they could just ban chav kids? As long as the parents were told if the kids aren't seated the whole time they're getting kicked out I can't see an issue.

I don't mind kids in coffee shops during the day, I'm not sure why that rule is there either. Also kids don't learn how to behave in places unless they get to go into them, and watch how other people interact there from a young age.

which also means parents should teach children how to behave in public spaces etc...

But who's going to teach the parents how to behave?

To be honest I used to work in The Bankhouse back in The day, The no child policy was always a 2 edged sword. A great deal of people used to come in a welcome the fact that kids weren't allowed, many people came in to relax, chill out etc. Also at busy times of the day hot drinks and plates plus pushchairs, children, waiters running around in a small area was just an accident waiting to happen, there simply is no room. But then people would argue that no children was a real pain and that everywhere else in stafford allowed children. Without being bias I really liked the fact that you could go somewhere and not have screaming kids or babies crying, and yes, not all are noisey, but this plus the fact that even if you wanted to get away from said noisey child its so small in there you simply couldn't. Just my input :)

I suppose if you have enough trade there is no reason to allow them, unless you specifically want them in your place.
