I'd love a proper Tapas restaurant in Stafford.
i'm sure we've had a couple over the years - muse, most recently.. despite consistently good reviews, it didn't last long - the people of stafford don't like tapas, it would seem!

Only ever tried it once in the uk, and was seriously underwhelmed. £4 for 4 king prawns in a bit of sauce was a pee take, tapas is meant to be a snacky food while drinking but I spent £20 and left starving. Only for the rich I suspect, yet abroad it's cheap as chuff and even free in some places as long as you're drinking!

I'd love to see some vaguely authentic Tapas. Restaurants I've tried always seem to have chicken wings and flatbread for an extortionate price.

There's a lovely little place in Wolverhampton http://www.cafemaxsim.eu/ which has great food but it still expensive.

I think I was spoiled by my holiday in Granada where every drink came with free tapas- ranging from meatballs to fried aubergine to a ham and cheese sandwich.

Ah yes, Muse, was great but I don't think enough people knew about it, I fancied a change and wandered in while it was open on a drizzly August evening and I was the only one there bar the kitchen staff and the wait staff, was a little odd, I think I paid about £10-£15 for four dishes plus a soft drink or two and it seemed nice, it was a pity that it closed.

Well, I had a go, but there was nobody about, and little evidence of any work going on - I even had a look in through the windows ( and gave the name URL to the nice policeman ).

I had better luck at the Island / Malt & Hops / King Bill / Dirty Duck...

It was very lovely - I went there a few times

There's a good place in Newcastle under lyme - Hector Garcias, but it's all about little bits, and sharing. In Spain they don't do a meal to tapas - but every drink / round of drinks comes with something, but it lets you keep partying for longer because you're neither stupidly hungry or too full to keep going.

We just don't have that idea here...

How did that interview with the Michelin Guide go?
Rather better than your practical exam, I suspect...

Hector Garci NULa, what a crap hole. Was once good but has gone majorly down hill, two bad experiences on the trot was enough.

2nd from last time got the order completely messed up, when it was right dishes were still missing and never turned up, food cold. Got bill incorrect, came back and they charged us to little so we left with paying too little.

last ever visit was before Christmas, with a worrying hand written sign on the glass window of the door about hiring of chef and what they would expect, clear probelms with the last one. Food took and age and portions were as pathetic as you could ever see. Bill was charging us to much, £70 plus for tapas and drinks we never ordered my buttocks.
Tapas is great if done right.

T'was a skip outside and workmen beavering away in there today. Anyone know when it might open? Seems a long way off at the moment but I only glanced inside.

It often looks worse than it is, when the Colosseum changed over to Zanzibar it still looked like a bomb site 2 days before the opening.
