I'm going tonight for my first ever visit! Having a "leaving do" for people I used to work with 4 months ago! should be fun! Sausage and Mash is one of my favourite dishes! Is there any sort of lamb pie though? Can't beat a bit of lamb!
[Quote from Gramaisc 'Right, I have, at great personal expense, i.e., a steak and mushroom pie and a pint of Old Empire, organised a Forum table for six ( currently ) on Friday evening. That's me, Colossal, The Stafford Beast, Withnail ( TBC ) ToriRat and her "special friend" Nathaniel. The table is extensible, should subsequent requirements dictate.....

The recently more svelte Ms Rat may need to wear some items of a cheesey nature in order to avoid any unnecessary embarrassment...']

Trumpet & Strumpet also in attendance, look out for us.
Ooooh! Well I'll be on a table of 5/6 women folk, most likely nattering away whilst our pies go cold (not seen each other in a long time so much to catch up on). I've recently dyed my hair a dark red colour so may be easy to spot, I shall endeavour to seek out someone wearing items of a cheesy nature but if anyone else there tonight spots me (or thinks they do) come say helloooo!

Maybe we should have a code phrase like all the cool spies do!

I hear the weather is lovely this time of year in staffordia
Yes but you must watch out for the ninjas!

Nice to have met you on Friday Vault-girl all be it briefly, we'd have made room for you if you'd decided to join us upstairs but hey ho, next time and all that.

It was nice to meet you too! I had meant to pop up and say hello to everyone but with the in depth gossiping and catching up I got into with the people I was with it sipped my mind. My apologies! It was excellent food though! I had the Lamb and Rosemary (as suggested) and it was wonderful! the minty mushy peas went really well with it too, and I'm not a fan of mushy peas!

Is there going to be a Stafford Forum Pie Club? I'd be up for regular forumite pie meetings!

I think this is a great idea. Without wanting to sound conceited, I feel like Stafford Forum has a special relationship with The Pie & Ale House, and we have sent a lot of business in their direction. Not that they needed the help! It really is the most wonderful place for a bite to eat and something proper to drink.

But I would love to see some kind of official affiliation. I know Sofa is very keen to have an Official Forum Event some time soon; perhaps this seed could grow into that?

Sounds good to me :)

I love the P&A, always friendly and they like kids*. The addition of decent cider is of course a must for me, but I love the atmosphere regardless. Plus they let me go back, despite how hideously drunk I tend to regularily get on a school night!

* Something a LOT of other places in town could learn from, I never realised before I got with my current partner but most places in town are not child friendly at all. Fair enough, many places are for drinkers and I respect that. There are relatively few places that tolerate children though, and even less that welcome them. The P&A is one of the few places in town I've been that I genuinely feel like they're happy we're there (i.e. us plus 2 kids) rather than an annoyance to be tolerated just to get our cash. Its now pretty much the only place we use in town.

Thats good to know that our 14yr old would be welcomed in.

Planning a visit sometime later next week when Hubby is off work . What time are the pies served til at night?

(Son might have to miss out this time though as we plan to make a good night out of it :munch: :pint: and go onto The Sun after to see what it's like now)

Makes a nice change TBH. We were in spoons for a mates birthday, and there were two underage people with us. Both were drinking soft drinks, but were told to leave as they operate a no under 18s policy unless you eat. Obviously we all left, and since there ended up about 10 of us and most of us seemed to spend around £40 that night twas their loss.

Didn't you used to be able to go into pubs at 14 years ago, before they started allowing kids into pubs, as long as you weren't drinking alcohol?

I've gone off Wetherspoons pubs since we were told in a Birmingham one that we needed to buy a meal for the 2 teenagers in our party if they were allowed to stay in the pub. We had just bought another big round when the meals arrived and as soon as the meals were plonked on the table, another member of staff said we had to leave within the next 5 minutes as kids weren't allowed in after 7pm!
I can understand it if it's small kids running around, but not when a 14 & 16yr old are sitting quietly with a group of 20 (well behaved ;) ) adults .

As you say...their loss !.....we spent a fortune afterwards in a pub which did welcome us all in.
