***LONG POST ALERT***

Well, I finally made it to The Post House last week and used my voucher..

Thoughts:

- On entry it all looks very nice. We had popped in a few times before on weekend evenings but it was so busy we walked back out again. Last week on a week night is was much quieter so we could have a better look around the place, and very nice it is too.

- Staff were all very friendly and chatty

- On being seated in the restaurant, we were told someone would be back shortly to take our drinks order... we then waited about 10 minutes which when you are sat gasping for a drink, seems quite a while.... stick a drink in my hand quickly and then let me browse the menu please.

- POSSIBLY GOOD NEWS - on being explained what the voucher included, I casually asked if it included the "Grill" section of the menu expecting a NO from previous feedback. Was pleasantly surprised to find out that it did include it, except for the Chateau Briand (sp?). Decision made, what else was I going to have but the most expensive steak.... ?

- Food wise we had the Goats Cheese Cassanade and the Smoked Salmon Plate for starter - the Smoked Salmon was beautiful and really was a plate stocked full.... lovely. Mains we had Pan Fried Sea Bass and the 8oz Fillet Steak - steak was requested medium rare and was cooked to perfection. Couple of sides were added too although the steak comes with chunky chips, onion rings, a mushroom and tomato so not so much needed for that but were for the Sea Bass.

- Quirky note, the Fillet Steak on one menu was priced £21.50 and on the other £24.50..... the online version also says £21.50 but I think the receipt we had was £24.50.... Didn't matter to us as it was included in the voucher price, but if you are paying cash money, keep an eye on this.

All in all a very enjoyable meal - with a glass of wine each included, we ended up paying for a pint of lager, a soft drink, the two sides and a couple of coffees and it cost us £16 ish plus the voucher cost.

The setting is lovely, a real jewel in Staford's crown and the restaurant was actually 3/4 full too so getting use from business people, groups of old people, families and couples. Will I go back, most definitely with a voucher and maybe for special occasions, but unfortunately not too often if I have to pay full price, its nice, but I can't afford it too often :(

Oh and I overheard the bloke on the next table saying that there was no scallops anymore and no Lamb... think the waitress put that down to a menu change?!?!?!?! Shame.

(One tiny gripe... the young lad serving behind the bar on the ground floor - had a cigarette behind his ear - doesn't look good in a "posh" place IMHO.

Are all of the directors that share the bankrupt ones name family perchance? Any debts getting written off as part of this change of ownership? I have no idea how these things work, but it seems a natural conclusion from very little evidence!

It doesn't matter since the company has a very different structure and legal obligation.

I have a few ltd companies. As a ltd I can't go bankrupt and even if I was a sole trader would never do such a thing.
Anyone who has been named and shamed in the gazette for bankrupty should be punished.

Interesting graph - self-employed bankruptcies seem fairly constant over the last decade..

A sign has appeared outside the Post House declaring that, while still open, they are (temporarily) unable to sell alcohol.

Well that will be a kicker, who wants posh nosh with a coke? Not sure what you'd get a temporary ban for? Serving kids is the usual, but I can't see that of the place. Maybe the current licensee left? Even then I'm sure you can rent someone with a license for a few days! Very odd, I hope they get it sorted as that will ruin business.

Don't fancy yours much!

Licensee change

Magistrate procedure

When an individual becomes a bankrupt there are usually many hard working honest victims who will be left out of pocket

Too easy a procedure

I went into today for lunch.
I got outvoted as I wanted to go the Swan but didn't make a fuss when the others preferred to go to The Post House.

(reason given for not going to the Swan....."it's like a creche")

So food very nice, didn't notice the no alcohol notice until we were leaving. ...( who drinks alcohol these days on a weekday lunchtime? No one I know)

But my friends were appalled to be giving business to someone who had declared himself bankrupt.....and leaving lots of other people unpaid while his family are still running the business.

So don't think we will be going back.

Do you actually run a business ? I would never condone Bankruptcy, but there are many reasons to wind things down or change ownership.
I'm considering liquidating one of my companies, there is no financial problem and no creditors. I will liquidate this entity to bolster my personal bank balance since this way I would pay less tax compared with paying out the retained profits via dividends.

Again this is a different scenario to Bankruptcy but sometime the media get terminology and definitions confused.
