What are your phobias?

Dentists - I blame the old school dentists on Lammascote road (the building where the nursery is now) . The trainee dentists/butchers gave me a phobia for life. I'm now a nervous wreck before any dentist appointments.

Going on downwards escalators. Ok once I'm on (but would cause problems in London as I have to hold on to both sides) but find getting onto the first step that's the scary bit.

I remember one of the dentist's at Lammascote Road - his name was Baker, but it should have been Butcher. God, he was rough. This was about 1970/71.

I used to work with someone whose mother was terrified of custard!

Someone gave my daughter 2 of those Victorian dolls with the porcelain faces, when she was little. We had to shut them in a cupboard because she was so frightened she would wake up and find they had come to life. I can understand that - a bit like clowns.

This thread is certainly not helping me with the 'grip' I need to get.

this may sound silly and a bit odd, but a fear of being on my own for the rest of my days.

I know that not to be true or to happen though........the only other one I have is a slight fear of heights...Ironic since I stand 6'4". But I do push my self to face my fears.

Wasps!!!! I have been known to pull up on the motor way and get out
of the van when a wasp got in while I was driving, I still have a vivid
memory of being stung when I was about 2 or 3 years old and having
a dolly blue bag applied to my hand.
I'm even scared of bees till I can be sure they are bees and not wasps.

Now then ... wasps. My late father in law used to squash them with his thunb, with the level of concentration befitting a champion chess player. I witnessed this act of Indiana-Jones style fearlessness many times before asking one day, "Cyril, aren't you frightened of being stung?" He responded with his very endearing old stafford manner, "Nooooooooooooh, duck, it's alright so long as ya keep away from their arses"
and squashed another for added effect.

Most impressed I was but sorry for the wasps.

Probably deep water, I had no issue until deciding to take my face mask to the Gala Baths in Walsall one Saturday in the early 70's. Seeing lots of folk floating about with a huge 'drop' beneath them was a bit off putting.

Its frogs and the sea for me. Dont know why ive never liked frogs but could be to do with them screaming. Horrible sound. We used to have a cat and one sunday morning whilst we were in bed i heard one scream from under the bed, the bleedin cat had brought one in. I knew as soon as i heard it and made the mrs go and get it out with a broom and chuck it outside, orrible little things. Im not a fan of the ocean either, or more accuratley the things that dwell in it. I went snorkeling on a reef a couple of miles out into the ocean when in the maldives and was enjoying it until i turned away from the reef to see nothing but dark blue just like you see on tv when the shadow of a massive shark slowly appears, and the fact that everyone else had vanished about half a mile up the reef, including the boat that bought us there. Needless to say i went at the speed of light towards the boat, got back on and stayed there until we left. Also went to heron island on the great barrier reef and was told no sharks can get near the island due to the reef and the shallow water. Walking along the beach we saw a hammerhead shark about 8 foot long beach itself whilst chasing a ray onto the shore. It turned around and headed straight back out towards a couple who were wading some way out. We waved and shouted and they waved back not realising what we were trying to convey. Once they saw the beast they had a bit of a panic but it went straight past.

I ♥ cryptic crosswords
Fairly sure a Hammerhead shark has never killed a human being

Dogs however...

And hosses. ..

And an owl... ( once )

Spiders and heights are the main ones for me, although I also have that fear of being alone - and being in water, not keen on that either!

Yeah, heights is a bad one for me as well. I did Go Ape at Cannock Chase stupidly thinking it would cure me...................it didn't and I found myself stuck up on some treeline boardwalk frozen with fear and there's no easy escape to the ground!! Horrible

On your own, in this pool, with a load of water spiders?
