Exactly! That's just what I mean, but any bridge really - and people taking pushchairs on escalators!!!!! Thankfully, I can't stand shopping, so I'm not exposed to them very often.

The bridge that really worries me is the one at Bridgnorth from the station across to High Town. I really do not like that one although usually I'm ok with bridges.

I really have no idea but it could possibly be 'incontiphobia'? There is a known way to allay this at least, and that is by use of a cork. However, this carries a risk to the public and could land you in serious trouble if someone was to get shot. I don't know if you can take out insurance against it - you (or the friend on whose behalf you are enquiring!) would have to find out.

I don't doubt it but, at the risk of sounding sexist in these mind boggling/pc times, I would suggest that it is far more prevalent amongst the male population than the fresher-minded female.

Never having heard the expression, I can only surmise that it was introduced as a smoke screen by an embarrassed male, using the accredited name of Sherlock to give it some credence? I just don't know.

According to the internationaly accepted authority in these things ie the Viz Profanisaurus. Sharting would be the act of 'following through' on this basis I would put forward shartophobia.
I myself am somewhat shartophobic on most Saturday and Sunday mornings.
