What's for dinner/tea?

'Crappy curry' as the carer calls it.

It's all very well & good for the carer who is furloughed to cook a curry completely from scratch... But when I get up for work at 5.30am, work 8hrs with only a 1/2hr break and still cook tea... Sometimes jars of curry are required.....

Some things that I make are worth the effort because they taste miles better than shop bought, but for me I’ve never mastered curry from scratch. My curry’s just don’t work out or taste as nice as a jar. No idea where I’m going wrong.
The current favourite is Aldi jar of butter chicken but I use prawns instead of chicken and add a jar of peppers in as well as onions.

I have bought some curry spices online from a company that @littleme recommended before Christmas.
Might give them a go once I’ve used up my stock of jars of curry sauces.

The OH makes this one, it was recommended by his Indian friend and it's really lovely. https://thehappyfoodie.co.uk/recipes/mums-chicken-curry

Same here - I have some "curry" meals but none are a stitch in the real thing!

I think of them as 'Indian' in favour (see above!) rather than a curry which I just can't match!

This are the homemade Curry's he makes, but it also involves cooking then pureeing ginger & garlic etc and takes about 3 hours in total with all the faff. I just done feel the love for doing that when I've been at work all day, or even 1/2 a day!

We've never mastered Chinese - nothing ever tastes anything like a propper Chinese takeaway, the closest I can get to making something that tastes remotely nice & nearly Chinese is Pinch of nom Pepsi max chicken.

Any other recipes gratefully received....

Minime made a birthday cake, it's chocolate & salted caramel, with mini creme eggs & maltesers on top... The pictures don't do it justice...

I have to say that cake looks pretty impressive.
I’m not bad at baking myself but I’m the least successful at chocolate cakes. That one looks really moist and yummy.
I’d bought some salted caramel essence a little while ago but I’ve not used it yet.
What recipe did she use for the sponge?

If you wish to have independent scrutiny of the quality of any cakes you wish to experiment with, then I'm happy to oblige

Oooo I have no idea, I can't bake at all and I'm not allowed in the kitchen* when she's making cakes, as I have the kiss of death ony any type of cake, any attempt I've ever made ends up in a 5mm high sponge!

*when she was younger I was allowed in only to take the cake in & out of the oven!

Would you be so kind as to ask her please?
If it’s say, Mary Berry or another popular baker then I’ve probably got it in one of my books, if not I could just google it.
I’d love to make that.
I have a feeling she cheats & uses this, but adds extra things to it.... But I will check when she gets home.

*edit, I've just seen the price of it on that website, how expensive! It's cheaper in Sainsburys & I think EVEN cheaper in places like Aldi or Lidl!

I was asked what I would like for mother's day tea...... So the carer is on another mission to buy Faggots from Eccleshall!

Tonights tea will be Steak pie, parmantier potatoes & cauliflower cheese - I'm trying to use up stuff from the freezer.
