I certainly know who you mean but it was her side kick at lunchtime, long thin face, pursed lips, middle aged woman - I could just see the first letter on her name tag (not sure whether to mention it not).

I'm intrigued to know what Asda do with their fruit and veg behind the scenes, any chance you can divulge a little more Flibbertigibbit?

Well I should say I'm sure it was down to the individual members of staff and not Asda in general, but lets just say... Coughing/sneezing/spitting on the produce for a laugh, 'accidently' dropping trays of veg in dirty puddles outside when taking deliveries in etc think you get the gist of it...

Should always wash fresh bought fruit and veg anyway, from anywhere! Also you never know how many customers have picked things up and put back and not everyone has the same idea of good personal hygiene!! :urgh:

Tesco is my one true love, plus I can see them from here, they're always in my life. I don't like Asda because it's so green, it feels strange... although I haven't been in for about 6 years so I'm not sure if they changed it.

Funny you should say that. I'm normally very fussy what I buy but Hubby threw the bags of apples into the trolley last night and when I came to unpack them the outside of one of the bags of apples was absolutely minging with what looked like dirty rain water dried on .

And a few weeks ago I picked some fruit up and there was something slimy on it so I rushed straight to the toilets to give my hands a good wash. I assumed at the time that a customer had touched it or sneezed over the counter.

Ugggh, put me off now .

Theres a lot goes on everywhere though that the eye doesn't see! When I worked in a bakery I was told to put loaves etc that had fell on the floor while customers were watching onto one side as though they were going to be thrown away and then to put them back up for sale when the coast was clear! I always make sure I don't buy the isolated loaves or the cake slightly differently placed to the others - that's where the ones they want to get rid of first are.

I'm sure iffy practices are by no means limited to any one supermarket.

The chemicals sprayed on fruit and veg are probably a bigger health risk , in the long term.

This will happen in every store, not just Asda. A old mate of mine spent a summer working in a sandwhich factory, to save money for uni. He would never eat any pre-packaged fresh food because he knew what sort of things happened there, and the thought of what could be going into his mouth made him feel sick.

If you don't make it yourself assume nothing, although I find the idea of puddle water on veg somewhat amusing as they come out of the ground!

A bit of dirt won't hurt, probably actually helps your immune system stay nice and strong. When thinning out veg like carrots or raddish I'll eat what I pull up with no more than a wipe off, taste better that way if you ask me.

Agreed, I know some people who peel mushrooms FFS yet I'll happily eat them dirty. You think birds don't **** on fruit? Think compost is antibacterial? If these things could kill us we'd never have started farming in the first place. As an aside I once saw a dog peeing on a stack of coke cans, that were waiting to be moved into a shop. You think the shop owner sat cleaning all those can tops?

There have been rumours of people catching Weil's Disease from cans and bottles, but the Leptospirosis Information Center suggests that the risk is very low, in reality..

I know it sounds silly but I found that Tescos has too much choice, I just want pasta, not 12 different types of pasta, or it it just me?
Also I find in Tesocs they do there internet homeshop picking during the day and they have those enormous trolleys that get in your way, the staff always huff at you as well trying to get round them, I'm a customer too!
Asda all they way, plus it doesn’t take 45mins to get out at Christmas!

I remember once abandoning a search for some cottage cheese in Sainsbury's because I just couldn't face reading all the cartons - with their ordinary, lite, chives, salmon, etc. - it's so easy to pick the wrong one when all the packaging is thematic. I don't want choice, I want what I came in for!!..

Cottage cheese also called dutch cheese or pot cheese, surely they're one and the same?......

In the interests of fairness to this thread, I have previously worked in ASDA (admittedly for a short time) and saw no evidence of any mishandling of any items.

I'd also say, I bet if you know what goes on in lots of other places you'd never want to eat in restaurants, take aways, fresh food etc!...

Dito that, my other half used to work at ASDA, apart from poor management there was nothing else dodgy going on! Oh how I miss the 10% off!

I shop at Tesco because a) it closest to my house / on my way to work and home and b) because the wife prefers it.

If it was up to me I would shop at Asda especially if it was more convenient. I hate Tesco because of the customer service lady mentioned above by KelvinA but to be honest all of them on Customer Services always look like you are putting them out if you ask for a refund.

I also hate that Tesco are too big for their boots and if you complain about anything then they fob you off or give you a hollow apology and then do nothing about any problems... and they are always overcharging.

Cannot wait for Morrisons to come to Stafford.
