Well we were treated to a, for the most part, rather dull 0-0 draw to bow out - take THAT, Montenegro!

In other news, Suarez gets peckish on the field of play again, tucks into a Pizza Chiellini...

crazy mental bastard. the only good thing is the ref didn't do anything, which should allow FIFA to give him a long ban. the last time he bit a player, it was 10 matches, so hopefully banned from internationals forever now, and if it can be passed onto club level, half a season. Liverpool should get rid if they can, as much as he was excellent in the premier league, they keep on about RESPECT, this guy doesn't know it.

its the 3rd time he's bit an opponent, he feigns injury to himself every time, and at the south African world cup, cheated Ghana out of the semis by handballing on the line. he deserves to banned forever from internationals.

England have been involved in more scoreless draws than any other country in the final stages of the World Cup - eleven.

Only eight countries have ever won the World Cup and Costa Rica came top against three of them.

Ivory Coast for me, just have to turn my flag round.

I feel part way responsible for their untimely exit - my support is usually enough to put the death on anyone. Quite apart from my default position of supporting African teams in any match they might be involved with, i have a particularly acute dislike of Greece.

Not Greece in general, i hasten to add, but Greece as a footballing nation - for some reason they just really piss me orf.

Win one, draw one, lose one with a gd of -2 and that's them in the next round! The Chelsea of International football is what they are - and just as repugnant. One can only hope that Costa Rica will give them the kicking they deserve...

Anybody got any predictions?
Personally i have not the slightest Scooby- everyone still in it has played well and, well, not so well. Has there really been a 'stand out' team thus far? Perhaps between France, Colombia and Germany on one side of the draw - Argentina and Holland on the other?
Shurely there must be jitters aplenty about tomorrow/tonight s game - what in the royal blue blazes will happen if Brazil bite the dust early doors? Don't really bear thinking about, really, do it? Unless there is significant 'up-age' of their game, i'm not seeing Brazil making it past the Quarters, if they even reach them.
In the Middle Ages it was customary to give names to parliaments that had been gathered - the 'Merciless' parliament probably being the best of them, name-wise - surely this World Cup should be similarly monickered?
The World Cup of Goals
The World Cup of Surprises
The World Cup of Mystery
The World Cup of Poor Defending But Much Attacking

- that sort of thing.

Looking forward to the 'knock-out' phase for muchos surses. - arriba!

That Howard Webb is a brave man - if Brazil hadn't won the penalty shoot-out i wouldn't have fancied his chances of making it out of the country alive. :o

Possibly confused by Chile playing in red.

I'll happily admit to not following kickball, but this Suarez thing has me confused. He committed a criminal act in front of tens of thousands of people, watched by many millions on TV, yet cannot be done for assault? I can understand a heat of the moment cock up in something like MMA, where you literally are fighting to stop your head getting smashed in, but not when kicking a ball about. Its not like its even his first time, and all he's got is time off where he'll probably get paid more a week than many of us earn in a year.

Is there some weird law that says the guy he bit can't prosecute because it was during a game? I'm pretty sure biting isn't part of the rules, so how are they covered? The little turd needs sacking for good, but everyone is scared to do that because they make a lot of money off him.

Enjoying a drop of red.

It's because footballists are 'special' and it's such a beautiful game.

no, cos the victim, Chiellini, hasn't and won't press any charges

police could charge if they wish, but it was only seen by the media, the ref didn't see it so wasn't reported. it's in no interest to the police, football dealt with it.

So the police know a crime took place, they have video evidence a crime took place, but won't investigate because its not in their interest that said crime took place, and its OK because a body of people with no legal remit have dealt with it.

I wish I was rich enough to not have to obey the law :(

If Costa Rica had crashed out last night I'd have been tempted to call it the World Cup of Cruelly Broken Dreams.

As it is the exploits of the underdogs continue to undermine the excuses made for the early exit of England. Chile so nearly knocking out the hosts with a defence made up of players in relegated Premier League teams and even one released by Championship side Nottingham Forest.
A combination of Hunger (not the Suarez kind), Good Organisation, Good Management and 1 Top Player should be enough to reach the last 16.

Costa Rica penalties were smashed in last night. Mexico were unlucky to lose out.

i'll say France and Germany going through tonight, both within the 90 minutes
