Oh! Fried bread.tek-monkey said:I am so there! Make it fried bread and you've got a winner, and mops up the frying pan, although just that line up is good to me. How rare is it nowadays to get all the trimmings, its usually beans OR toms, rarely mushies and never hash browns. Get your westons on and I'll be down!
I am living in Stafford solely because I had fried bread for my breakfast once. Fact!
It was the day of my French O-level oral exam and the first question - en Français - was, 'What did you have for your breakfast?' I had a very poor grasp of French, but even I could answer that - 'Pain frite', I said. He put his clipboard down and said 'You've just said 'fried bread'! 'Yes', I said,, proud of my achievement. 'What? Bread that has been fried?' he said, having no concept that such a thing was possible. We spent the fifteen minutes allowed to uncover my (in)competence in the French language discussing, in English, the finer points of fried bread. At the end he must has given me a pass mark and that got me a bare scrape in French which gave me enough O-levels to do A-levels and thus end up at the Poly. Any other questions, or any other breakfast, and I would have been rumbled. Without that piece of fried bread Stafford would be a poorer place - I like to think.
