I said:Castle Tavern turning front section back into a pub
I'm not sure of the exact reasons, but it seems a sensible thing to do. I don't think they'd be anywhere near as busy this year as they have been for the last few months if they kept it all as a restaurant, as most people simply can't afford to spend that much eating out. I also think that the kitchen is way too small to cope properly with the present amount of tables.cat_woman said:Why the change?
this sounds like a great idea..Andreas Rex said:They used to get a lot of drinkers in there before all the changes, and I guess he's taking advantage of the fact that people will still come out to drink and watch football/rugby/whatever. He's also going to do bar food...burgers, pizzas, sarnies etc...
He's also going to be having a good selection of real ales, so I think he'll be on to a winner.dirtybobby said:this sounds like a great idea..Andreas Rex said:They used to get a lot of drinkers in there before all the changes, and I guess he's taking advantage of the fact that people will still come out to drink and watch football/rugby/whatever. i hope so.. seeing as i'm thinking of moving to that area, it would be nice to have a regular watering hole with all the trimmings.. i've never been a huge fan of the railway tbh - a bit too pokey, and not great atmosphere (for me, anyway - i realise some people here are bonafide regulars).. but i've always liked it in the castle tavern..Andreas Rex said:He's also going to be having a good selection of real ales, so I think he'll be on to a winner.dirtybobby said:this sounds like a great idea..Andreas Rex said:They used to get a lot of drinkers in there before all the changes, and I guess he's taking advantage of the fact that people will still come out to drink and watch football/rugby/whatever. I used to go in there alot years ago, when Clive had it, late suppers and all that, it was as the Railway is now.Andreas Rex said:I said:Castle Tavern turning front section back into a pubI'm not sure of the exact reasons, but it seems a sensible thing to do. He's keeping the back (far right of the front door) as a restaurant, and the intention is to put a separate entrance in so the two are completely apart. The upstairs will still be for eating too, so there will still be space for 60-70 people I reckon.

No you don't you just hate leaving CastletownAndreas Rex said:All sounds good to me! We ate there on Monday, and the £6.95 deals were delicious and substantial. Will be great once the screens and Sky are installed...I hate going into Apres/Litten Tree/The Yard for football matches, so this will be an excellent alternative.
This is yet to be decided, and it will probably change week-to-week. One thing i'm planning is to do a pot of stew and crusty bread, as it can sit on a hot plate until it's finished, and the continued heat will just make it taste better!dirtybobby said:what sort of thing will the buffet comprise? i know it's free, so i'm not expecting steak and stuff lol.. just interested - sounds like a brilliant way of getting us proletariats in for a few pre-weekend pints!
I've got plenty more up my sleeve, but I agree that these should be very appealing to a lot of people. There will be flat screens showing Sky in the bar, which will be sorted asap.gk141054 said:Great marketing ideas Castle Tavern, as per Andreas' posts, will you be getting Sky in the bar?
