Bad times for pubs in Stafford

Gutted. Love the B&P even if it is all the way on the other side of town! Hopefully only a short term thing! :-(

This maybe controversial and I don't wish the closure of a business on anyone but I wouldn't actually be that sorry to see the back of the Grapes. I've only ever been in there a couple of times, once was bad and the second time just to check whether the first time was a fluke - it wasn't.

It was a horrid, seedy experience - even as a man I didn't feel comfortable in there at all.

Well they're all owned by the same people, so it would make sense if the money ran dry, they'd all go.
They're not all ran by the same people, where did you get that information from.

Regarding The Bear Grill, Chris Lewis will put us straight on that one if he has time to pop on the Forum and this thread inparticular.
No one has mentioned the Bear Grill. The Bear & Pheasant is owned by Eddie who has the Grapes and the Coach and Horses.

Where does my information come from? I've played gigs for him in the Bear & Pheasant and the Grapes, and seen it first hand.
Yes the Grapes, Bear and Pheasant (friars terrace) and Coach and Horses are all run by the same person

Oh no!!! I really hope so! I'm too old for Casa and Couture and The Grapes is the only place to dance otherwise. Plus - where will we go to see the Rock Dogs :(

apologies, i was blinkered into seeing bear and thought of Bear Grill, so sorry about that.

Having never heard of The Bear and Pheasant, easy mistake to make, so yeah i'm sorry.

But, anyways, confirmation of no closures (all round) so there we go!

Gutted, all proper pubs. Very sad, I go the coach often as I can to support it, spoons should be avoided like the plague.

The Grapes have just put this on facebook -

We would like to announce that we will be closed for a very short period of time due to unforeseen circumstances. We anticipate business as usual from early next week.
We would like to also thank our loyally customers & staff for their kind wishes and hope to see you again very soon !

Should we do the obligatory and speculate? I'll guess they fell short on the money to stock whatever it is pubs stock.

I don't think it's fair to speculate - we don't know the circumstances for all we know it could be a family crisis. We should just wish them well and hope they do re-open and poor Lilith gets her job back.

You should visit the pubs that suit your tastes, I quite like the new spoons* although I avoid the old one.

Has the Prince of Wales on the Weston Road shut again?
I hope not, we rehearse there. Where have you heard that? I was there a week ago Tuesday and it was all still up and running.
