Genius! Now you've raised another issue, as my favourite pudding is crumble (rhubarb, apple etc, not too fussed). The problem is that the crumble MUST be on the top, so then you're looking at the starter on the bottom. I can't see this being a great issue, but maybe we could adapt it so that the layers are vertical, a la Neopolitan ice cream.

But you'd have to make sure the pie was then approached the from the correct direction. Otherwise, somebody could end up eating the dessert first, and that's just too horrific a concept, in terms of both etiquette and fulfillment.

So a round pie is then out of the question, unless some external indication of the whereabouts of the courses is given.

Maybe a little pastry shape on top of each section. A piece of fruit, e.g. a berry, a 'nana etc over the desert; a cow, giraffe or some other edible creature for the main; and a prawn/melon/soup spoon over the starter.

No further discussion needed, i feel. Unless anyone's got a better idea, which is, frankly, impossible.

All we need to do now is action said pie! I will be going to the Way of Rail after work and if Tiggy's there, i'll see what arrangements can be made. I am excited.

i agree dont stop yet, we need to decide on the courses for each 'section'

for starters anyone?

i get the feeling its going to pretty meaty, so maybe something lighter for a starter?

soup for starter....genius. it might be a bit sloppy though? would have to ensure the consistency doesnt destroy the pastry base.

Good point. You could reinforce the pastry base in the starter bit with a layer of lasagne sheeting.

You could also introduce a line of perforation into the pastry lid, at the divide twixt starter and main, thereby allowing prising of the lid to access the soup without revealing the main, which could lead to disastrous heat loss.

Man, this is great. I never thought I'd achieve so much when I set out for work this morning.

Liking the idea of the multi layer pie.........

Have a bit of a sweet tooth so what about some sort of pic n mix pie with sweet pastry?

Or for breakfast - the super deluxe breakfast pie complete with beans, mushrooms, sausage, bacon and eggs - maybe even a few hash browns for good luck .....

Shit, I am hungry now.

Well the main certainly has to contain meat, and my all time top meat is Lamb. My favourite vegetables are carrots and parsnips, so some kinda lamb stew perhaps?

I reckon the after-dinner drink should be cold. Then it could sit inside the after-dinner drink section of pastry in a cup or lining fashioned from chocolate or Werthers Originals without fear of meltyness. On a modern, Starbucks-style tip, but with a hint of tradition, how about an Irish frappuchino?

For the main I'm thinking something along the lines of beef in green pepper and black bean sauce with bean sprouts and noodles, in a Euro-Asian fusion style, as some of the other courses are going to be Europeanish.

as anj gave birth to this pie initially, we have nurtured its growth, but i reckon the main goes to the king of castletown...lamb stew sounds like the way forward....simple, but hearty. i like it...
