Buying a House

Had a call from the solicitors!
They have FINALLY received the draft contracts after the vendor changed their solicitors 3 times!

The leasehold seems dodgy as hell - the current owners haven't paid ground rent in years, so something has to be put in place stopping the council back charging me!

Also it seems all wrong - not registered right - I have to double check with council???

I may not be able to buy the freehold (in which case I'm walking away)

So confusing!

I'm about 3 seconds away from saying feck IT! And buying another - less complicated house!

Do it!

Then find a bouncy castle, take ya boots off

And bounce like heck!

Agreed, walk away. Gotta ask why they keep changing solicitor, maybe the solicitors have told them the property is misrepresented?

I have to agree - it sounds like a bit of a can of worms this one

Sometimes its best to walk away - although it's difficult if its a house you really like :(

I agree too. Walk away.

At the moment you are focused on buying the house.

In a few years you may want to sell the house. The issues you have now will be the same issues when you are trying to sell.

Always have an eye on the future sale.

It at seem like a disappointment but if a house is right for you then you will know......and I think this house is telling you something. *go away*

Do you know who owns the ground rent ? I own about 40 of them. I'm always very good about selling them. But if you haven't paid then I will chase you and I will put a debt order on the house stopping you from you selling it.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Where there's doubt, there is no doubt.

Walk away, there are plenty of places for sale and, who knows, you might find something nicer with fewer complications.

The bedrooms are a little smaller, but you do get an extra one. Possibly a very similar footprint. The main bonus for me would be the conservatory and the garage, and its only a street away from the other house if the exact location is important.

I don't understand why you would want a conservatory they are too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. The only historical reason is that you could build one without planning permission. Given the relaxation on planning rules for single storey extensions I don't see why anyone would get one these days, they are good for about 3 months of the year then too hot or cold.
