We've tried samples of pretty much all of them, but the only one i'd recommend as something i'd be happy to eat a whole meal of is Zebra....really tasty and tender.

Astro Boy

Pocket Rocket

They offer 25% off your food bill between 6pm & 9pm on Sundays, so you may be best going then if you're trying out new things...at least you won't have to pay full whack. South African Zebra with red wine and Shallot marmalade: £23.50 becomes South African Zebra with red wine and Shallot marmalade: £17.63. Sounds a lot more appealing :D

Went to eat at the Castle Tavern with the other half last night and as ever we were not disappointed. If anyone is planning on eating out any time soon I can recommend the Zebra and Springbuck - both were absolutely fantastic. The bill was tiny too - happy days!

MyCult even joined us for a pint afterwards :v:

Admin edit: moved post to correct thread :)

Went down their the other week to have a look with a mate and we thought it was expensive so didnt bother....

just seems overpriced to me for what is really a pub...not a restaurant..

I'd go for the other meats but no way I would pay £20 there when I could go to the Italian in Stone and have a brilliant meal everytime

I'd recommend the cider.

On the Food side of things they have a nice line in Unicorn, Dinosaur and Griffin. Not so sure about Lasagne and Chips don't think that’s endangered/Mythical enough for Ash (landlord).

If you haven’t been yet it is a really good place to eat and I think the love music hate racism lot may be able to get in there later on (providing you have your ticket stub) for a sort of after party. I won't be there unfortunately as I love racism and hate music, but am sure you'll all have a great time anyway :P

I feel I must point out that the Castle Tavern are being really rather splendid in providing a venue for the upcoming Stafford Love Music Hate Racism gig (tickets only a fiver and available on the door!), so even though we can all have our opinions about the cuisine I have to say that I think it is a top place with a top landlord and top staff!

We went for the first time last week and it was fantastic. The service was really good and the food was great. Not the cheapest of places but worth the extra i reckon. Will be going again.

this place really seems to have turned around.. i know a couple of people who rate this as one of the top places in stafford, which is amazing considering the horror stories in the beginning part of this thread..

There's a load of us booked in for an Xmas meal on the 17th, and I have no doubt that it will all be excellent. Things have really settled down now, and most evenings when I walk past it looks pretty busy. Great news for Ash in the current financial climate and with Christmas only a month away.

Interesting to see that nobody has posted in the Tequila Red thread for a long while...
