I heard on the radio the other day that around 250/300 under-16s are reported missing on the average day in England and Wales. It seems a fair chance that such a rumour is likely to be true most days in most areas....
yeah but i think they are talking populated london/birmingham/manchester etc - staffords hardly a hugely populated area like those - anyway even 1 child missing is too many, no matter where it is!

Bit of a stupid rumour given that a little boy was kidnapped in oldbury the other day! If it is true then parents have a right to know regardless of how sensitive it is! I would like to know if theres some nutter roaming around the area, it works in the usa but being clammed up britain we arnt allowed to hear info like that!
Sounds like you are confusing two things

Charges have been brought in Oldbury so little can be reported now

If there is an ongoing investigation locally ( i have not heard this is the case ) and it is as I described then it would remain unreported if there was no apparent threat to anyone outside the investigationi

50,000,000 divided by 300 is about one per 170,000 of the population, on a daily basis - so one every couple of days in metropolitan Stafford.

The "rumour" I heard, was that one of my step daughters friends received a Blackberry Mail announcement for people to be aware. I didn't see the message myself, so can't verify the source.
As others have said, something would have surely emerged by now if there were any truth in it.

As for nutters roaming around - if you need to be kept aware of this then it might be best to never let your kids out of your sight. They live in every neighbourhood. We just don't know about them until they comitt a crime. The only sure way to be sure it would never happen to our kids is to keep them locked up 24 hours a day - and then we'd be bad parents for not allowing them a life. As awful as it sounds, we just literally have to hope and pray it's never us, and educate our children about the dangers in the big wide world the best that we can.

1 stop reading the Daily Mail

2 your kid is in more danger in your home or your car ( statistically ) than roaming the streets. Thats what streets are for

Roam if you want you

Its a bit different "roaming the streets" nowadays, although you cant keep them under lock and key, there isnt exactly anywhere for them to "roam" to anymore!
Whereas we used to "roam" to the local disco or youth club, these have no pretty much all gone!

Kids that are able to "roam" around get bored (see post moronic kids kicked my fence down!), or get moved on by people living in that area! I would not let my child "roam" around the streets, if there was she had to go (at a resonable age) then okay. But she has no desire at the moment to go out.
Does that make me a bad parent? Not not at all, quite the opposite. Other than this one, ive raised 2 other kids (all grown up now) both have never caused anyone any trouble, never been unemployed or claimed benefit and both have their own businesses.
My youngest wants to go to art college when shes old enough, she would rather come home and work on her drawings than go out on the streets. I think ive done a pretty damn good job on being a"parent", considering theres only one of me!

Absolutely miss red. I couldn't agree more about boredom being the cause of un-necessary roaming and vandalism. If only there were some youth clubs still, but like you say those days are unfortunately gone. Such a shame.

when i was younger. Its was always impossible to "roam" anywhere on parkside estate .It was a nightmare , although my friends and i never caused any trouble, we were constantly getting stopped an searched by police on a daily basis. sniffer dogs were called on a few occasions.I suppose it was one way of cutting down anti social behaviour , but not all kids/teens should just be stereotyped as vandals.Police used to say to us that we should just go round a friends house. I hardly reckon any parent is going to want a house full of teens, especially when they are not at home.Mine certainly didnt! There is nothing for teens to do in stafford, and they generally dont have the money to be going tenpin everyday..

Copper and drug sniffer dog checking out the Eccy pubs last night. Cracked a Haliborange abuse ring apparently.
