Voneus is available out in the sticks, although we're waiting for Zen to offer it.
I kinda just assumed we had it, as I used to see so many zzoomm vans on my commute pre COVID I just thought they'd have got around to it by now, but now I realise they were always at the Crewe end of the commute!

Looks like I'll go with Vodafone, cheaper for their 500 than virgin want for 350 and they have marginally better upload speeds too. 2 year contract though which is annoying.

Wouldn't touch Voneus, their sales technique is pure harassment

What a Moss Pit is?

Or rather why

And how many brooks rise ?

Where was Copen Hall?

Tixall? Boxes?

Hopton? The bus?

Fairway? Golf or Candyfloss?

Why did Ronton become Ranton?

Queensville?

Who was Rowley and why did he have a park?

Where was the Kings stone on the hill?

What’s a Yarlet and how much was in the bank?

Rising Brook is indeed named correctly - there is only One brook and in extremely heavy rainfall it rises to street level. In the 1980's the water rose high enough to flood Brook Glen Road . The water rushed up as far as the Brook Glen Green.

There is a glen at the end of Brook Glen Road and a Merrivale next to the glen.

Water caused a sink hole in Brook Glen in 2024, which was a dangerous event but thankfully no one was hurt.

I don’t know why the other areas were so named – anyone else know?

Highfields - because it used to be all fields and it's quite high.

Parkside - because Commonside sounded a bit, er, common.

Littleworth - a bit judgemental...

Beaconside - because it's beside Beacon Hill.

Weeping Cross - "according to tradition, a wooden cross for penitentiary purposes stood here in the reign of Edward VI". *

Rickerscote - a chap called Ricard may have had a cottage there.

Holmcroft - a croft by the island, but it's a long way to the Indian where the Dirty Duck was.

* Weeping and Cross now just describe the reactions of drivers attempting to use the highway through the area.

Anyone else still waiting for their 2023-2024 PAYE tax to be calculated ?

Hubby still has 'Tax has not yet been calculated' on his HMRC Gateway account. He's owed quite a bit back !

Mine was only done last month as well , was due a bit of a refund , and had to actually claim it back through the HMRC Gateway link on website as they don't send out refunds automatically nowadays .

How to help someone with tonsillitis... They've been prescribed penicillin 250mg ,2 tablets 4 times a day. But they're suffering from a severely swollen neck, acute headache along with all the swollen throat /tonsils.

I've tried cold and flu med, ice lollies and antiseptic spray, but they're not helping....any other suggestions that might help?

Trouble swallowing - is that the issue?

If so, and if the penicillin is in hard tablet form, then crushing it into small pieces will help greatly.

Keep an eye on their skin for red marks and peeling. I had a dreadful dose of this in the 90s and couldn't get it taken seriously until the initial doctor was on holiday and I was seen by someone else who was prepared to make a better hit at it.

I was given a much higher dose , actually from the drawer of his desk and told "He would never give you these"...

Swallowing, headache, earache, swollen throat , tonsils & neck.... Nothing seems to help, not sleeping either or eating. Struggling to even drink. No fever though, as temp is 36

How long has this been going on for? If no improvement after a week of penicillin or if temperature rises contact doctor and suggest possibility of penicillin resistant bacteria.

Thank you, yes about 2 years ago I had a chest infection, 10 days of antibiotics & I didn't get any better, went back to drs where I was blue lighted to hospital, severe chest infection & kidney failure, in hospital for 2 weeks after not realising how bad it was.

This is my daughter (19) that has tonsillitis, but I'm scared ofter my experience of how things can escalate so quickly.
