Electric cars.

I had no idea of the complexity of chargers. Thought a charger was a charger! Who knew šŸ˜‚

I am now better educated and when brother next visits will send him to Starbucks at Redhill!

Is possible to know what KW the charger is by sight? Is there colour coding or is it the normal standardless free for all we usually get amongst private companies?

Yes there's a 50kw CCS and a 22kw type 2. There's also two 120kw chargers at the Costa next door.
Incidentally, I'm told that the coffee in the Knot and Plough is better and cheaper than the coffee in the Costa next door yet the Costa sells far more coffee than the Knot and Plough does.

Noticed recently that 2 new chargers have appeared in the car park where Wilko is. Not currently showing on the zap map...

Im somewhat perplexed but completely unsurprised that Stafford doesn't have a Tesla supercharger. My brother has a Tesla and informs me the closest one is Trentham? I had no idea charging one of these cars was so difficult.

I know there are some 50kw chargers dotted around but the closest one to me is Premier Inn and they only have one which could well be in use.

The one at Holmcroft library is 7kw. What's even the point in them unless you live by the library and can leave the car all night?

As you can probably tell this is my first and possibly last experience with charging electric cars and it's not been a positive one! No wonder the environment is going to shit and its not in this instance because the Tories are allowing raw sewage to be spewed across all our beaches :(
Super Chargers are very much designed for ā€œIā€™m mid journey and need a top upā€ at motorway services, and anywhere that wants to attract Tesla owners.

As @proactive says 7kw chargers are honestly only for long stays and emergencies. If I top up my car at a 7kw charger Iā€™d get 10% back in an hour, depending on current charge. We have them in the tech park (Anson Court) now which is nice.

Thankfully we do have IONITY, etc around. Speaking of, their rates are absolutely ridiculous but if you use the Bonnet app you can get IONITY and a few other networks for 50p or less if you setup a monthly top up on your account

Or if youā€™re like me you put your payment details in, wait for the battery to get super low then make the most of your first charge on Bonnet being completely freeā€¦ -cough-

Itā€™s not a horrendously complex system, especially with these shared network apps handling the mess of multiple networks for you. Just takes a bit of getting used to mostly

It's been just over a year since I last owned a Tesla but it was always the case back then that it only ever gave you info about the Tesla network. @Cue can update as to the current status, I'm sure.

Personally I find all the UK charger apps to be on the poor side but to be fair, Zapmap does show the Ionity chargers at Redhill, I've just checked.
Still just SuC and Destination chargers.

Walked past these today and they are only for taxis and private hire cars limited to 1 hour

Electric charging facilities to help cabbies in Stafford Borough go green

The sites earmarked in the borough are car parks in Broad Street, Doxey Road, Victoria Park and North Walls in Stafford and Crown Street in Stone. The charge points are 50kW rapid chargers with contactless payment and, while some of them will be open for public use, at least half will be reserved for the taxis and private hire trade.

Shame that we don't have any taxis to use them though!!!

Trying to get a taxi in Stafford nowadays is an absolute joke and taking the electric ones out of action for up to an hour will make it even worse.
