Hats off yet again to our Jack.
Sometimes he just wanders off on little missions and produces donations out of thin air.
He's procured, refurbished, and delivered 10 laptops to a local primary, without any input from any of the rest of us, taking our total to 867 overnight!

Total cost to restore these two e-waste laptops: £20.
We don't think that's a bad punt given the lives they will change.

We'll be joining MPFT at Rising Brook this Friday for their first community skills group.
We're providing 2 Windows 11 laptops and 2 Samsung tablets for free public use during sessions

Always a pleasure to help out the awesome team at Cerebral Palsy Mid Staffs.
Now, this disabled lady can have access to their sessions and other services from home.
You bought the replacement keyboard and battery we needed to restore this laptop to factory condition.

Another delivery today to Staffs Baby Bank, to drop in a laptop which can now be passed to a struggling family.

This takes us to 869, with another 6 waiting in the 'outbox' for this week!

Question though - Are MPFT donating any out of date, well worn and knackered Laptops? Of which I personally know there are loads.

We've asked that question before, and same response as pretty much all the big corporations.. "data security", "existing disposal contract".
They go to Stone Group I'd imagine, as they have the expensive data security software and ISO accreditations and all that.
Ultimately though, they probably all end up being turned into cubes.

The Great Unwashed used to work at Stone, he wouldn't touch them with a bargepole now.
Surely, you have the same means as Stone to wipe everything? Yes, there's oodles of confidential stuff on them, but who's to say Stone is anymore trustworthy than yourselves?
They sell loads on EBay too, and sell a lot of what goes for scrap n all. Bloody ridiculous.

That would require joined up thinking.

Surely, you have the same means as Stone to wipe everything

The process is the same, even the software is virtually identical and is 100% effective, but they will have paid a lot of money for vetting of their processes to gain accreditation which gives them the upper hand

With your help we've fixed up and rehomed a whopping 25 internet-ready devices this week!
Saved from e-waste and gone on to create new opportunities where they are desperately needed!
This takes our total to 877!

We sometimes can't fully publicise where our devices went (although we keep records of them all) because they are going to individuals coming to us via an intermediary, usually from sensitive or vulnerable circumstances.
However we can tell you that two more of your e-waste laptops have been revamped and now rehomed with two young people seeking retraining, and this takes our total to a nice round 880 new opportunities created

It's a pigging pity they don't answer the phone for employees who have been locked out of their accounts. And who need those accounts for tmrw night and a teams session from home on Thursday!
