While Kyotos facts are way off.... as normal.

But is wasn't Stafford Performing Arts Staffordshire Performing Arts. County service not town.

Also some mentioned it most recently county council owned and sold, but the article states it was borough. Anyone know who it was.

People don't care about heritage until it is gone. Most talk a good game but simply don't care if it means getting off their arse or putting their hand in their pocket for a couple of quid.

Iibraries are county, but did they own the building to sell?
The building was donated for use as a library - where the proceeds should have gone is a moot point. Back to Carnegie, possibly.

Same sort of thing as the University selling the County Council-built Polytechnic. Did the County get a return on our investment?

I once sent an email to the Carnegie Foundation in an attempt to clarify the auspices under which it might be bought or sold.

TBF i was completely wasted when i did so, so am not entirely sure whether my missive merited a response that it didn't get.

The question still stands.

Though TBF i'm also a little bit wasted now, so am probably not best placed to re-ask.

What ever the case may be, it's up to those who'd like it saved, to save it.

Given the time it spent as music services & the fact that the eventual sale fell 99 years after its donation, I would be inclined to speculate that there was a 99 year caveat that if it ceased to be a library it had to be put to educational uses. But it would be interesting to know for certain.

Great news!

My first thought was uh another The Post House scenario, but at least it'll cleaned-up and saved for another few years.

Thanks. I'm glad someone is doing something with it. I am sure Friends of Stafford will disagree.

Opens in May '19, closes in May '21.

Tad negative, i'm aware of that, but being of a certain age you see things come and go, last and, erm, unlast.

Just as long as the building still stands and most of its insides are protected.
