There's a mountain near there called Ben Lawers which has been the bane of my life since the sixties as a student in Edinburgh. It's a big one (3982 feet) on the North side of Loch Tay. Three times I've had a go at it, in the sixties, seventies and nineties and each time I was weathered off.

Pretty sure I'll never get it now. :(

Is it this one?

Looks like it. This view from near the top end of the Loch ? ... I was going at it from near Killin.

Went for a drive via Spital of Glenshee to Braemar today and then over the tops to Grantown on Spey.

Wow what a fantastic drive!!! Definitely worth the long drive with some spectacular views although we couldn't find anywhere without steep climbs to do a decent walk.

Well I did drive up the little road that goes up from near Killin toward a loch with a dam. There's a beat up little car park up there from which a good path that takes you up. But there's still a lot of mountain to walk up even from there. Those mountains in the Grampians tend to be rounded without too many harsh ridges or crags, but they make up for that in height. Also when the wind gets up on them, especially outside the summer months, they become real killers.
The third time I tried in the 90's I'd come down from the Mountains of the Assynt up on the North West coast and I parked up that road and slept overnight in the car with the intention of doing it the next day.
When I got up, there was driving sleet and snow and the clag was down on the deck, so, cursing, I headed home. :|

I am beginning to look at something big for Q3 '22.

Even though it is the soonest i can conceive that plans could be concrete, i am already doubtful that they will come to pass.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Found myself some sunshine and a sea view (sort of) , after the carers 50mile detour as he didn't believe the satnav and didn't want to sit in a queue...

We're heading over that way with the RV in a week or so. Nipped across by bike earlier this week to check the roads to the place we're staying actually are wide enough as getting stuck wouldn't be a relaxing start to a break.

Stupidly used the eco setting on satnav to go from New Quay Beach to Llangrannog Beach, Tresaith Beach, then Aberporth Beach... It took us down never-ending tiny windy country lanes that were barely wide enough to get one car through, plus a very nasty left turn coning out of Llangrannog. A horrific trip for me (& I wasn't driving!) I stubbornly insisted on getting back to New Quay via an A road, which was much quicker and far less stressful!

All in all had a great day though, dodged the rain all day, and watched the dolphins in New Quay while eating chippy chips!

Just booked a Eurotunnel Flexiplus ticket for tomorrow night. A bit short notice but planning ahead hasn't really been doable of late due to the COVID excitement.

We thought, as p jr had Thursday and Friday off as staff training days that we'd head down to our little place to the east of Aix en Provence for half term. We would normally stop for the night en route but have decided to drive the 1000 miles in one go. Will be interesting to see how the EV charging situation has improved in the two years since we last went.
