I agree about the scenery and the fares but the town/city hop on/hop off buses are a good way to familiarise yourself and plan where you want to go in a new environment.
I've never been on a town/city hop on/hop off bus but will bear it in mind.

Yes Gloucester docks is the same as the Quays.

There are good bars and restaurants around that area and as you head up Southgate towards the town centre. I would recommend the Hop Kettle, Robert Raithes House, Gloucester Brewery warehouse and Cafe Rene pubs and Aroma and Greek at the Docks for restaurants.

There's a food festival at the docks on Saturday and Sunday if that's when you're heading back.

The town is a bit 70s style concrete buildings as you head towards the station but you don't really need to wander that far.

Hotel du Vin in Cheltenham has limited parking but I think it's first come first served. There's loads of good pubs and restaurants in Cheltenham but they can be a little spaced apart as you move away from the centre.

Bath is lovely but I've not stayed there for years. The open topped hop on/hop off bus is a great way to get your bearings as well as being very interesting.
Thanks that's most helpful. Planning a short break in that area of Gloucester now , possibly for hubbys birthday . 👍

I asked again this morning about an extra day here if anyone cancelled thurs night. Asked while the manager & more senior receptionist were on the desk this time ;)....

Not got our Signature Superking seaview room type available. But showed me their 1 bed apartment which would let us have at same price, with all meals etc included the same at same cost of this room . Massive, , Lovely , with its own private garden , but had to go out of main hotel to access it.

So showed us the last Deluxe Kingsize a few doors along corridor, no seaview but still spacious and nice. Letting us have it cheaper than website price, they'll move the luggage for us. So hoping no-one books it for night before now so we don't have to wait for it to he cleaned.

I love nosing around hotel rooms
Some of the buses in the Lake District are open topped, hop on and hop off, free with a oldies bus pass*, mostly half hourly from early to late seven days a week, with much much nicer scenery than going round a big town or city and excellent for getting to plenty of proper pubs. I used them over four days a week ago between Kendal, Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Grasmere, Keswick, Longthwaite and Seatoller.

* And even without a oldies bus pass my ten journeys capped at £2 would be less than a day on an open topped hop on and hop off bus round Bath.
Buses. Use them or lose them.
I nearly c0cked up jumping on a bus from Brixham today. Luckily driver said " Where to?" Making me realise I'd got my visa card on the scanner instead of bus pass

Just remembered that Boogie (sadly no longer with us) really enjoyed the open top bus and earphones commentary around Bath. 😂

I've got a photo of our late Piskie dog on an open top bus in Torbay. She loved them and got up the stairs better than me on her 3 legs.
Photo to follow when I get home ....

She also got on the boats going across the bay better than me as well . Miss having her here, she loved her holidays!

We love a HOHO (hop on hop off bus) we’ve been on them in so many places and it’s such a great way to get a feel of a place, especially if you are in a destination for a short time.

Even better fun if you are lucky enough to bag the front row upstairs!

Had a week in Brixham last week in a cottage we rented last year. It was great but need a holiday to get over it.
Away in the lake district in my motorhome in October, my wife likes Haverigg so thats where we will be.

Is it your first one or a renewal?

They tend to take the time to process the initial applications, but my last renewal was remarkably quick, it was in the post to me the next day.

@Carole Looks like a lot of walking? I'd possibly struggle with my knees at the moment. Nice though.

It was a few hours from start to finish but a fairly straight walk, nothing really very steep.
My husband doesn’t really like heights but he didn’t want to wimp out in front of our friends.
Anyway, he loved it and I think that I can safely say that he’s cured his fear of heights.

The new path looks to be a great improvement on the original - some of the old videos are hard viewing...

Yes quite.
On the second photo you can see part of the original path underneath.
We were told that people used it with donkeys to carry their supplies.
