Not only do we, generally speaking as a Nation, not eat vegetables, we do not walk anywhere, we drink alcohol every single week,consume high fat 'foods' and foolishly believe the TV when it tells us we will all live to be one hundred

Well I am one of those fatties but certainly dont believe I fit the stereotype.

I hold down a professional career often working 50 hour weeks.
I am active - at nine on a Friday night am taking a break from decorating the bathroom. I could probably beat most of you in a mile swim. I have to admit my gymnastics isnt that great.

Yeah I eat pizza and chips - as an once a week take-away, but otherwise cook fresh healthy meals. I would much rather spend my money on holidays than expensive crap food even if I wanted to.

Like most fatties, I have no metabolism disorder, but love my food (and a bit of wine now and then), and have a bit too much, a bit too often, and although I am active, probably dont do quite enough.

Yes I would like to weigh less for health reasons, but its my issue.
I am appalled by the original story.
Just dont think all fatties fit the stereotype, because most dont!

Well said, losing weight is also a battle and can be a long hard one (Basil, John, behave :P) It's something that folk don't see you doing as well, so make judgements on you based on the idea that you aren't doing anything. I wish folk would realiseas well that just because i am..well ok, fat (i am working on it) i'm not deaf and i do have feelings so those jibes that some folk and you'd be suprised who, make while you pass are heard and felt. Grr
The world is plagued by obesety and things should be done for those who genuinely want the help and support but not the judgements. Just because we got ourselves into this large state doesn't meant we can get out with out some help.
Mind you that's if said person wants to lose weight, lots of people are happy with their shape. If folk are happy with it and aren't about to drop dead from it leave them be i say :)

A hydraulic ram? If I found a ram in the hospital loo, I think I'd worry about the anaesthetic. Encouraging news that the hospital authorities are thinking creatively, though. Maybe they could train teams of hamsters to clean under the beds?

I've just spent a week on holiday staying with someone who is fat but insists she rarely eats. Every night though she gets up 5 or 6 times to have a fag, cup of tea and some chocolate. This doesn't seem to count in her head, but it does on her waist. It's people like this that reinforce the stereotype, making it hard to see it as a problem.

Thats just insane! And yes it is folk like that create the stereotype. Very sad what she is doing to herself.
