I've lived in Stafford 41yrs, and it's only in the last, I want to say 5 years max, that I've really made any proper friends. And that's all due to the power of Stafford Forum.
I used to go to aerobic & step classes etc for years, went on my own, everyone else was in their own little clique and I ran back home afterwards having spoke to no- one

Here everyone out walking speaks , the clubs I've joined everyone speaks to everyone else , and even the class instructors go out socialising with their various classes/groups.

I was brought up in Hanley a lot of my childhood while mum was in Groundslow hospital , so think I've got a bit of the Stokie in me chatting to people at bus stops etc.

In the 70s, I used to go to Ireland for September each year, to my uncle's farm. After a few years, I resolved to make an effort to get Stafford people to interact a bit more. I had a walk of exactly a mile to work and I generally saw much the same people every morning. On the Monday morning, my campaign started, but by the Thursday, I had largely given up. On the Friday morning, I discovered that somebody had reported me to the police...

My parents (and me come to that) have lived in Stafford since 1968. Their neighbour, a typically inbred 'ethnic' Staffordian, formerly active on this forum, still considers them to be outsiders. Principally, I think that it is because dad refuses to say the word 'buz' instead of 'bus'. But as the neighbour is monumentally pig-shit thick, it could be anything really.

I say Buz as well.
There is nothing wrong with saying buz, that's not the point. It's the attitude that you're a fecking foreigner unless you say buz not bus.

When he found out I had got hitched to the current Mrs p (who is Hungarian), he told my dad that she must be a commie and should get herself back to Russia. But not quite as politely as that.

Needless to say, we don't exchange Christmas cards.

I thought I was saying bus until someone pointed out I was saying BUZ sometime last year . Still can't tell the difference. When I try saying it differently it sounds like BAZ (my posh attempt) and buss (the rougher sounding attempt) ...so everyone will have to put up with my BUZ 😂

At 67 I'm too old to change now . And wait til I have to eventually have my front tooth out (as warned by the dentist today that the time will come soon ) and got falsies..... last time I had my front teeth out and false ones for 6 weeks while my bridge was being made I couldn't say S's at all . Had to keep ringing customers at work quoting our order numbers which all started with SW ... "Efth W...Efth for Thugger"

Last weekend, somebody hit a lamppost and part of the town's streetlighting system collapsed, so that the streets on my side of the town centre here are dark, remarkably dark, like it used to be in the 70s. Wandering into town has required me to reinstall the previous programme - walking down the middle of the road, relying on the white line. Walking on the footpaths risks walking into one of the dark lampposts or other objects. If a vehicle does approach, there is enough light to relocate to the side until they have passed.

Apart from the odd lit window, the only light on my kilometre into town is this reassuring blue light.

Stafford people are very hard to get to know. Where I've lived previously everyone has been a lot more friendly, people chatted at bus stops, in shops, everywhere.....everyone keeps to themselves here.
I will say though, one of those friends buggered off over to Italy, living with a bloke I went school with now.

Had a panic stricken afternoon ..

After ringing GP surgery for hubby as he's not well (He's had heart failure for 9 +years) , receptionist got doc to ring him straight back , who in turn told us to get straight down to the surgery. Thorough examination, ECG & blood tests booked in for next week and hospital X-Ray being arranged. Got to go back to see the doc , but scary bit......... instructions ... "any problems over the weekend ring 999 or get him straight off to A&E , don't mess around ringing 111" :hmm:

Why is it when you are in a rush to get somewhere , you get stuck behind every learner in town crawling along between 10-15 mph and refusing to go at clear junctions for aaaaaages.????? Every way into town is then gridlocked with roadwork traffic lights, or diversion with main routes closed and everything diverted into the gridlocked roadwork areas??? Aaaargh. Ended up kicking him out nearer to the docs and then sprinting from the only carpark I could manage to get to.
Journey back home , when I wasn't in a rush, it was plain sailing and got back in record time

In true Staffordjas tradition...
Got a text off the holiday apartment owner whilst in the pub with son & hubby, so nipped outside the noisy pub to ring him about hols...
All hell broke loose while I was standing outside with about 30 blokes starting a mass brawl right outside the pub doors. I was stuck in a doorway where I was hiding watching bouncers wading in. Son came outside looking for me ,thinking I was in the middle of it .....managed to eventually get back to safety inside . Holiday bloke was listening to it all as I'd slung my phone in pocket still on & was worried about me😂

I really miss the Stafford accent and really look forward to hearing it when I'm home!

Being in Scotland EVERYONE asks where I'm from and I'm very proud to be a Staffordian and fly the flag!

However... if anyone mentions the word 'Stoke-on-Trent'....

I've set my alarm for 7.40am tomorrow. Now, will my useless phone update the time as it springs forward.......or will I be late going to work? Anyone's guess. If Sainsbury's doors aren't opened at 9.30am tomorrow, it's cos my alarm didn't go off!
