In fairness, Richard Cullen is FROM Stone. I am really excited that Paul Gilmore has come to Stone too. His food is amazing. If either of them opened restaurants in Stafford I'm sure they would do brilliantly too but it probably is an advantage to be somewhere with a thriving restaurant community. You kind of go to Stafford for a curry...

Careful, you are almost agreeing with JM (although apparently a little geographically challenged). I must admit that I wouldn't think of going into Stafford for a meal except for the Swan, and in the past the Vine.

I think these types of establishments do have a place they just need a bit of effort from the owners. The Swan and Post House and others are a perfect example of that.

Think it takes a bit more than 5 weeks to establish yourself.

The Post House?

You may have been abroad so not be aware of the Post House history. I think there is mention of it on this forum.

I have been abroad but only 2 weeks at the beginning of August. It was very nice but it's History now, just like the problems at the Post House. :)

Enjoying a drop of red.
We already have chip shops (albeit not restaurants), not sure I can see myself visiting if all they offer is a variety of different battered fish. When we went in there were at least 12 of us, one chose fish and chips.
I guess they know their market.

Oh hang on, they've already demonstrated that they don't.

If there is one thing Stafford consistently tells me is that I am not its market! I don't understand how a place that told me I'd need to book by wednesday for a saturday meal suddenly needs to turn into a chippy I'll not likely visit. Its on a back street, who is there takeaway market?

I was looking forward to visiting this restaurant and trying its old menu. I'm not sure I will bother now.

5 weeks to establish a new restaurant is not long enough. I think the owners have dropped an 'own goal'. Very sad.

Stafford needs more high quality restaurants - not less.

Far too quick, ridiculous. Also why a drastic change, you have seafood to a chippy, why not broaden the mention and just go with a quality restaurant that isnt strictly fish.

I have met the owners and far too much effort went in to the restaurant layout and the marketing to make this a planning get out.
As for changing after giving it just 5 weeks - that does sound massively ill judged.

I guess being busy on Friday / Saturday evenings is not enough - Welcome to Stafford!
