Orange T-mobile network problem?

I just keep my phone on 2G now and only switch to 3G if I wanna surf. I'm amazed at the difference it's made to my battery life.

Seriously thinking of ditching Orange and moving to a Sim only deal with somebody else when the contract expires.

That's what I'm doing too, kind of defeats the object of having a 3G phone I guess but at least it works that way and I'm getting a tenner off my payment next month which is better than nothing.

Mine is certainly location dependant, I can't get a signal in my bedroom at home but its now fine at my partners house less than 10 minutes walk away. In fact a brief test here shows it's now OK if I go in the back garden, or indeed anywhere to the rear of my property, just not in my bedroom or living room (i.e. the rooms I tend to use).

As I can't get a signal with three mobile in the same locations I'm thinking the mast has powered down a bit, and the transmissions no longer penetrate my property (ooer). Bit crap really, I've only been on orange a few months and its not looking good :(

There was mention in the current Eye that with the merger of Orange and T-mobile, where masts were 'doubled up' (so to speak), some were being taken out of service as a cost cutting measure - could this be the case here?

Ok the latest from someone in my office who just phoned orange to moan about the signal issues. This is what Orange told them:
there are 4 masts down in the stafford area.
two should be fixed late september (26th-ish I believe)
one more mid october
and one they don't have a date for yet.

They have just been given a free month on their contract.

Excellent information Vault_girl. This sounds more logical than any previous explanations.

I'd like a free month, although both Orange and Orange T-Mobile networks are fine for me since Friday, as far as I'm aware. Signal strength is not an issue either. It will only be an issue if you're relying on a particular mast to supply you, and it is down.

call 150 and choose the options to say you have a problem with your phone. I've always got thru to an english call centre that way

I really can't be arsed to contact them. They know the problem, they have my postcode, they can spam me with lots of messages I don't want to receive. How about sending a "we are experiencing problems within the following ST postcodes and estimate the issues being resolved on such a date"? That's what I call customer service.

One of my colleagues called to complain today as 4 of us in the office have had issues this morning. He has said he wants to leave Orange since he has not been able to get his new phone to work since he got it due to the "mast issues". He has been calling all week and being given different details each day.
the first person he spoke to said "you're at the furthest point away from any of our masts so that's why you're having issues" to which he responded "so that means you mis-sold me the phone because I was told the areas I'll be using it in are all fine" a quick back track and he was put through to second line support who tried to call my mobile since I have had no signal all morning. They then got me to change to 2G and I got signal back so they added me to the "investigation" as "evidence". They have sent my colleague a "sim update" message and are going to be ringing us in two days to test further.
at no point was any issues with masts in the ST area mentioned even though two days ago the same colleague was told that the whole of the ST postcode was down.

I am getting very concerned about this - Orange never have the same story one day to the next.

Mine's still working fine on 2G - but it's not what you expect to have to do when you are paying for a 3G phone is it!
I'm also annoyed that they have only offered me a tenner off when someone else mentions a free month - so think contacting them again is in order!

I just received two text messages, saying welcome to orange and that my phone is now set up for mobile email. Wonder if they've fixed things?

Although my phone now says "EE", I've been having intermittent problems tonight.
Every few minutes or so my phone is saying "No service. Emergency calls only." Sometimes it says "your SIM doesn't allow connections to this network".
Anyone notice the same? This only seems to be happening on the Orange transmitter (I know it's the Orange one as I am previously an Orange customer it's the EE network that shows as the 'home' icon on the network list that is having problems).

yeah, me & the missus are both on t-mobile, and our signal has been up & down like robbie williams' career today.. neither of us have been moved to EE yet, although we both got the text notification weeks ago..

Did you turn it off and on again? LOL

When I got the EE text, I deleted it and rebooted my phone - it then showed EE immediately.
Strange - hope these problems don't go on for yet another month! It's coming to the end of my Orange contract and tempted to move elsewhere after being a customer for at least 10 years.
