The top storey of Woolworth's / Sports Direct was left unfinished for decades - in fact, I don't remember the girders being removed.

I don't know - it just looked like they'd given up building it - nobody I asked ever knew what it was all about..

I'm still surprised that they managed to take it down without me noticing.

Not quite. It's where the old St Chad's reception used to be and most of the ground floor of that building leading on to Martin Street that will become the job centre.

Be fair, it was quite breezy in the night and I think we had a few spots of rain. No £40m building can be expected to take that sort of punishment.

I didn't give it too much attention, but they appeared to be sticking what are essentially paving slabs to the vertical sides of the building with what looked like tubes of No Nails.

I wonder if there could be trouble in future years?
