Talk to me about solar panels.

We have 2 different ones, and I'm not sure. A trip up the loft is required.
All up and running now?

If 2 inverters sounds like you have AC connected batteries? In which case yeah, it will almost definitely have needed a G99, as both are counted as generation devices.

Up and running, battery isn't coming until August - we're getting a power wall.

There are 2 invertors because we have 3 separate strings. We've go t a 3.16kw that has the 8 bigger panels in, and a 1.18kw that has the 4 smaller ones in - there's no room for any more so that doesn't have a spare input.

Ah, got you. Still above 3.68 in total though so will get a G99 certificate, wonder if the powerwall is included on it or they do another one later for that?

Octopus have just emailed to say my feed in tariff is going up to 15p at the end of the week, which means the most cost effective thing to do is fill the powerwall at night and dump all the solar into the grid.
Yup, essentially you're now remote storage for them. Am I right in saying the powerwall warranty is unlimited cycles just based on years?

I have no idea but I shall find out. In theory we could fill it at 11.30 when the cheap rate kicks in, dump it back out then fill it again before 5.30.

Reason I ask is my batteries have a warranty on age or cycles, and I worked out that each kWh I cycled cost me about 10p, so therefore if I wasn't making 10p per kWh it wasn't worth it. But then I also realised if I only cycled them once a day I'd be well under the limit and hit the year instead, then wasn't sure what to do! That said in theory mine should last longer if used less, but I have no idea if thats the best use of them as tech will have moved on so much by then.

I usually fill at night anyway, and just export all day as prices for both are similar for me, I only changed away from this as when away for 3 months I liked to see I was using less than 5kWh/month!

How long do you expect it to take for this to pay for itself? I have a south facing roof, and as there’s only two of us in our house, our bill is very cheap - £40 a month in summer, will be about £60 in winter.

With bills that cheap solar may not be for you tbh, I average 13kWh per day so 400/month or more like £120 but bills are negative lately

Yes I think it's similar, may be able to fill batteries for free in the day though.

As I'm on go I pay 9p at present, and it's all set up to just work so I don't need to intervene. If I see a free day I may well try a manual charge, but TBH it's the gas thats costing me at the min. With my wife and son away for a few weeks I may turn the heating down, especially as I'm in court all day!

EDIT: Just realised Erics room triggers the boiler all night, so thats on low til he's home!
