Talk to me about solar panels.

I just looked and apparently I'm not eligible for saving sessions? No idea why, one reason it says is if they can't get 30 minute readings yet all mine are present for the last few days. Most are 0.01kWh but thats still a reading!

I keep having issues with billings as apparently my smart meter is sending the data back.

At the last minute it said I was OK for savings sessions, so I put 4kWh back into the grid from battery which I'm hoping will net me £9. Not a huge amount but will cover 2-3 days bills.

They are pre-installing solar to some of the houses on the old Alstom site off Lichfield road.
They have 4 (yes four) panels on them....🤦‍♂️
This is worse than having none for most people. 4 is too few in the UK, yet panels are the cheapest part of the system - I've seen them below £70! But to get new ones added you'll likely need to rip out the old, which adds cost to installing a proper system rather than helping you. Did you notice which way they faced out of interest? We've seen builders put them on the north side too despite the south roof having no obstructions!

If the government actually gave a shit about the whole net zero stuff they'd mandate better insulation and renewable measures for every new build. Why do we even have radiators nowadays in a new property? Instead they do this, madness.

No they have are south/SW facing. Worst still they are incorporated into the roof 😩🙄

They'll have to get the so called smart meters working properly before they can be used for their intended purpose, to charge more for the fuel used at peak times.

It works very well in the main, we have much cheaper electricity at night and we're billed by the half hour because we occasionally get the rate in the day too. There's just a few days missing.

Sigh.

Check a box without actually doing it properly. There’s probably what, a couple of kWh tops there?
Looks like 3 panels, and cheapest are usually in the lower 400s so I'd say less than 1.5kW. In this weather you won't get 1kWh/day.

We didn't put anything back in, but we've since discovered we need to get Tesla to enable to setting.
Any luck? It's £4/kWh tonight for 90 mins so I can potentially dump 7.5 but as the inverter heats up it throttles back to a 4kW draw meaning more likely I'll export 6kWh.

Yep, we had to get Tesla to enable it. Currently dumping the solar into the battery so we have as much as possible, although the OH thinks we'll only dump 4.5. Apparently you still get the 15p export too.

He's read there might be another one on Friday given the weather forecast.

Great, it'll be paying my gas bill off as well at this rate!

Looking like about 6kWh dumped during the window today, so about £24 or nearly 5 days of gas/electricity/standing charges as I'm using 50kWh/day in heating at the min!
