Went in for a coffee. Very nice place however the Nachos are just chips and dip with no cheese which in my mind is not a nacho. Other than that the coffee and cakes were very nice.

The Venerable Mrs Seed has been in with friends a couple of times, once for a coffee, and once for a just look. She was very complimentary about the place, staff & ambience , particularly the decor! Big , from Mrs Seed. Can't wait to go in Tonight, so you can get my unbiased opinion*, tomorrow! I am not sampling the food, Mrs Seed was a bit taken back by the prices, but I explained, it is my understanding they want to become a Oasis for fine dining, (APOLOGIES TO THE SWAN), and do have light bites offerings!

Am not sure about the food as I may have to remortgage before eating there but spent a very enjoyable evening at The Post House after a Steak and Stilton pie at the Pie and Ale on Friday night. Spent the first part of the night in the cocktail lounge, possibly in close proximity to the mystery forumite who posted earlier. The two lads at the bar make very good cocktails although they had run out of some ingredients by 11 so had to close it to restock. Spent the rest of the evening trying to work off the Steak and Stilton Pie and cocktails by throwing some rather disturbing shapes on the dancefloor.

Was going in prior to meeting friends in the Sun, DOH My assessment will have to wait, met someone on my way down to the Current Bun, so went in with them to Spice Island while they ordered, then got nattering so had to leave to meet my friends in The Sun well I had already eaten! Four ex firemen, one lives in Norway, one who lives in Greece, and 2 who have just retired! A good chat was had, :pint: and when my mates from the curry house came in, they commended their meal, and couldn't believe how cheap it was!

The bogs must have cost a few bob to build however they insist on a stack of paper towels on the sink and a bin that probably cost 99p in wilkos that has to be opened by hand meaning the hands need to be washed again. The speed of table clearing is on a par with spoons, when they are wiped it's with a dirty cloth, the trays used for serving meals are the size of a small village and in the busy periods are potentially lethal, my old mate Gilbert nearly lost an ear in a close shave with one of the said trays. An interior xmas tree had it's lights switched on at 5pm, if dining at one of the smaller table be careful of resting your elbows on it as they are not the sturdiest furniture i've encountered, most of the floor staff are pretty young and no blame can be attached to them, agreed it's bound to have some teething problems and it'll be interesting to see if they can identify them........

Basil has certainly identified a number of issues. Is there no end to his talent?

I went in on the opening weekend with the other half for a couple of drinks and to have a good looksy round, I’m still reserving judgement however the staff were certainly plentiful and very attentive. I then went in again a couple of days ago with my boss for coffee and I’ve got to say I was impressed by the service, atmosphere and the latté was beautiful –this coming from the Starbucks addict!

Although the food is a very different story, I’ve not eaten there but I can’t say I’m in a hurry, I’ve heard some not brilliant things now from a couple of people and the in-laws had a less than pleasant experience, with wrong orders, long delays, cold meals, bad service then a big piece of plastic packaging being served up with the main course.

Hopefully just a few teething problems but it’s not a wonderful start. I’ve not written the place of just yet but will probably leave it a while before trying the food.

Me and my dwarfish sidekick are meeting up this evening after work and will either go in here or nishads, dependent on how rich I feel after 3 pints of cider.

I took the family in for drinks and cakes at lunchtime and I must say I was underwelmed. We was sat in the back room and our order was taken and then waited......and waited. After half an hour the manageress realised that we hadn't been served and prompted the staff to sort out our order. She apoligised and fair do's to her she accepted that it was a long time to wait and waivered the cost of the drinks. From start to finish we were in over an hour which seems long for lunchtime drinks.
Don't get me wrong the place is very nice and the drinks and cakes were good but you get the feeling that it is style over substance, for example a waiter carrying an oversize tray to carry four meals is pretentous theatre.
It wasn't as they if they were over busy and there were plenty of staff on, it seems the old adage 'walk before you run' is true here. A simple solution would be the waiter/ess who takes the order is responsible for that order and follows it though.

Popped in tonight for a quick look round and was very pleased to see it doing well and very busy. Attracted a lot of punters of varied ages for what overwise looked like quite a quiet Xmas Eve in town.

Seems first opinions are good, but its the meals that seem to be letting the place down.
Overheard a conversation at the pub on Xmas Eve which wasnt complimentary about it either.

Have heard rumours that the chef walked out as he was unhappy that customers were being charged a la carte prices for processed food, and that his reputation was at stake. Whether its true or not, who knows, it would be so useful for a member of the management team to get on the forum to reply to comments.

I will give it a try, but am not happy to do so at the moment. I enjoy fine dining and dont mind paying for it, but object to the all too common philosophy which seems to be "charge a lot, and the stupid customer will think its good quality".
I genuinely do hope its not the case here, just teething troubles, however my optimism is waning!

As soon as this place opened Marwood disappears. He was always going on about the standard of food in Stafford! Here was his chance!

I emailed a member of their staff just before they opened to ask about menus, and told them about this thread. I got the menus eventually, but can only assume they aren't too interested in what the locals think?

I'd like to go in there, but money isn't exactly spare for me. I won't pay high prices for a mediocre service, and the reports I'm hearing at the moment are enough to dissuade me from trying them out. I'll give it a month then see what people are saying, its not like we get much time without the kids anyway and we're already out for the GFs birthday next month, so would be feb/march before I'd get a chance to go in anyway.

Just spent the evening in the post house and give it a 9/10.
Cocktail bar is lovely, proper quality cocktails made by a pro. Customer service was top notch.
5 cocktails had by me and mr speak65.
Only negative was when a true Stafford darling came in and complained that there were no piña f***ing coladas. Barman very courteously suggested that the main bar might be able to meet her needs better

We decided to have a bite to eat and staff were very accommodating - happy to upsize the mussels starter to a main and searching out a bottle of malbec that wasn't on the wine list after hearing us discussing that we fancied one.
Waitress was very pleasant but missed mentioning the specials and a couple of other little beginners errors.
Maitre D was spot on (is the title still Maitre D if a lady?).

I hadn't realised til tonight that the fine dining is upstairs and downstairs is bistro cum cafe. The quality was bob-on for that kind of establishment. It's not fine dining but it doesn't seem to pretend to be either.
So 5 cocktails, 2 glasses of wine, mussels, risotto (that him indoors said was nearly as good as mine) and a couple of coffees totalled £65, which I thought was good.
Will def go back and hopefully try upstairs at some time too once the cards have recovered from Xmas.

I was on tripadvisor looking at restruant reviews in Stafford and any body reading the reviews of the post house would be underwelmed by the posts. That said you do wonder the motives of people who post only once (we've seeen this on this forum) there was 1 reveiwer who posted twice once to relly critize the post office and then one to praise the swan to the hilt.
What strikes me is the differance Chris Lewis and the management of the post house have to public relations. Whilst Chris responds to posts on tripadvisor and contributes to this forum the silence from the post house is deafening.Ok it's early days but the PH needs to get it's act togeather.
I might be wrong but i believe the traditional media is on the wane and the interenet whilst isn't the be all and end all, is increasingly the medium where people form their opinions.the PH needs to get out into the public domain and respond to critizism

Agree totally and a point of interest perhaps is that the cocktail barman tonight
was aware of the forum's existence

" Only negative was when a true Stafford darling came in and complained that there were no piña f***ing coladas. Barman very courteously suggested that the main bar might be able to meet her needs better " he should have directed her to the Tavern or Spoons with a ticket not to return.

My first visit yesterday. Met friends for what was billed as "coffee and cake". Only one among us succeeded in obtaining actual beverage and cake. Two more managed to get drinks. The rest of us gave up. In just under two hours, no member of staff came anywhere near our table. I went over and tried to order cake. I stood at the counter while on the other side of the counter, two girls chatted animatedly and completely ignored me. I can only assume that the cakes are for display only. One chap, who had been before, knew where the menus were kept, so I had a look (obviously the closest I was going to get to actual food) and thought it looked OK. Nothing special but certainly OK. Felt fed-up, if not actually fed. Noticed the manager of The Swan in there - should think he went away laughing up his sleeves.
In the faint hope that the management of The Post House ever read this, here are some phrases you might want to teach those "stars" you were recruiting: "Hello", "Can I help you?" "Those people have been in since last Tuesday, do you think we should see if they want anything?"
