British Gas sending me a letter in June to say they were sorry I was leaving them, which I had no prior knowledge of.
Trying to get reconnected to British Gas and them taking my details down wrong.
Having to call British Gas again to have the account details changes because they'd taken them down wrong.
Finally having it all sorted months later, and eventually getting the first bill of the new contract through, only to receive a letter saying "Sorry to hear you're leaving British Gas".
Having to call British Gas again to be reconnected again.
Calling EDF to tell them to stop trying to take over the gas supply without my consent, as I was told it was them both times, only for them to say they've got no record of ever trying to take over the account.
Receiving a letter from British Gas, addressed to the wrong flat, asking why I haven't paid the bill which was originally addressed to the correct flat and which I've paid.
Feeling that jimbob...been having the same situation over the last couple of months, since i moved into my new house. I called British Gas to give my old meter readings, and those from the new place. They sent me final statements saying they owed me £318 for gas, and that i owed £104 for elec. This immediately rang warning bells, as i knew my accounts were settled. I called them to ask if they could just off-set one against the other, and they claimed that the final readings i'd given were
estimated. Why anyone would call and give estimated readings when closing an account is beyond me. Having spoken to about 8 different people in various departments, it transpired that the house moving dept don't share the same database as the billings dept, and so neither had a record of my previous conversations!?! One would say they did have my correct readings, the next would say that i haven't given any at all...anyway, after about 4 hours' worth of calls, i have now been told that i am not owed this money at all, and it was a system error. They seriously don't know their arses from their elbows. If they'd just said this in the first place then i'd have saved a lot of time, money and effort.
The guy on the phone said 'I can see from your account that you're leaving to go with nPower...can i ask why?'. Once i'd managed to control my laughter, I told them that i was leaving BG due to their inability to give me a simple, correct answer on anything, and for implying that i'd not actually called them in the first place. I also requested that they no longer write to me, as i'm not interested and it's a waste of paper. Since then i have received no less than 7 letters, one day saying 'sorry you're leaving', the next saying 'thanks for choosing BG', and the latest was on Saturday when the letter said 'thanks for signing up to pay by direct debit'??? This is not only incredibly frustrating and very confusing, but it's rather worrying that so many people from the same company can tell you different things and none of them actually have a clue.
