UKIP........

It seems to me that there has been a continuous debate about immigration for as long as I can remember.

Agreed, but the debate is usually just hijacked by nutters (from both sides). Just because there is continuous debate doesn't mean that there is any rational information or clarity.

Are UKIP offering clarity and rational information or nutters from one side?

To be honest I don't really know as there is nothing much to compare their argument to and that is much of the problem. Mainstream politics has only really just started to discuss the issue, largely because of the UKIP opinion poll rise so we have a situation whereby they don't really want to go into detail about what their policies are and what they think as they'd really rather not discuss it at all.

As the UK admitted the other week that they don't really have the foggiest when it comes to immigration numbers surely its a very important issue?

What does need to happen is the figures need to be laid out for all to see. They need to say x people are coming over here every year, they contribute y to the economy, and without them your pensions will have a shortfall of z because w locals are just too damn lazy to contribute to society. People need to see a difference between immigrants and asylum seekers/illegals.

Of course, with 50bn in foreign aid a year you've gotta wonder why we don't just make their countries better to stop them coming over in the first place? But I assume most of that aid is to buy weapons off us to fight the people who bought weapons off us last time?

I have just read the UKIP policy on immigration and they are not what I would call anti-immigration in the way that the BNP are.

They are calling for a end to immigration for permanant settlement for a five year period but does not state what will happen after five years, so if you don't want to settle here permanently you would be OK.

Nigel Farage is more Tory than the Tories and a Thacherite Capitalist, I not think for one minute that he would deny his chums in big business access to a ready made supply of cheap labour by stopping economic migrants.

You can read UKIP's immigration policy here

And the BNP's policy here

"A UK Independence Party (UKIP) MEP who branded a room full of women "sluts" has had the party whip withdrawn.
The party's chairman took the step after Godfrey Bloom's comments overshadowed the UKIP conference.
Bloom has insisted the remark was a joke but party leader Nigel Farage said the MEP, who is no stranger to controversy, had "gone beyond the pale" this time.
UKIP chairman Steve Crowther said: "I have withdrawn the whip from Godfrey Bloom, pending a formal disciplinary hearing."
Farage said Bloom's behaviour had been "selfish" and was overshadowing "all the good things" happening at the conference.
He added: "The trouble with Godfrey is that - he is not a racist, he's not an extremist or any of those things and he's not even anti-women - but he has a sort-of rather old fashioned territorial army sense of humour which does not translate very well in modern Britain.
"What he ought to have learnt is that time and time again he says things that overshadow the whole agenda that UKIP is fighting for."
He added: "My opinion is Godfrey has gone beyond the pale."
Attention at the party's conference in Westminster was diverted from Farage's keynote speech by Bloom's actions, which also included an altercation with a TV journalist.
Pressed about the sluts comment, Bloom told Sky News: "I made a joke and said 'oh well you're all sluts' and everybody laughed including all the women.... "

Going off on a tangent, I'm wondering how long many of us would last as a politician (not though we want to be one though). It must be depressing to be on message all the time and tow the party line and not say anything that people might get offended by.

I would have claimed that I had been misheard and was merely suggesting that they must have once been in a punk band..

Can't recall these from my youth, just looked on youtube, ok but not as good as X Ray Specs. Who would have thought Polly Styrene (fantastic name) would be so prophetic about the abundance of hi-viz vests when she sung The World is Turning Day-Glo.

Peel played them quite a bit. Never saw them myself.
