They've both come out now, he's just got marks where they were. My piercing eventually came out, healed over so quick, I didn't have time put it back in.
Thing is, he'll have his lip done, walk round like he's Sid Snot or sumat, but won't have an ear done. Kids!!

I think Ambience do the first hole in the ears with the gun, any after that have to be by needle, I may not be right. Body piercing is all done by needle, youngest has just said when he had his lip pierced, Kevin shoved a needle straight thru, no freezing used.
Piercing guns can't be properly sterilised, and using them rather than a needle can cause tissue damage/ trauma. Also, when piercing guns are used, it tends be accompanied by not using the best starter jewellery for the job.

I can only have gold or silver, could never buy the cheapy stuff you see in super markets, my ears would swell up like Leslie Ashs lips!
I'd love a 2nd hole, but i'm too much of a coward go n get them done now.

I had my bellybutton done by Kevin at Ambiance many moons ago too, hurt like faff, but no other problems ;)

Small child (7) wants her ears pierced this summer, so all recommendations welcome...

When I worked in the school kitchens a few years ago ,one of the girls had a nose ring which she wouldn't take out. When the big boss came round she had to do what she should have done all the time and wear a big blue plaster on her nose to cover it .:urgh:

Why?

Was there talk of a pierces next to Too Fat Goblins?

I can't help I'm afraid - I had my belly button pierced by a nice bloke in Cardiff well over a decade ago.

18 wow! you can legally go through labour and be responsible for another life by then (not that I would encourage it)

My daughter had hers done at 10, previous to that I had refused as i didnt think she understood that this was a permanent and painful exercise which had risks of infection, nor did I believe she would be able to take on the responsibilty of cleaning and caring for the piercing. (clearly with some parental support)so I insisted she wore magnetic earings for a year. As I had parental rights and felt I knew my child had made an informed choice I felt as comfortable as I could with that.
it did hurt her and she was terrified, I felt sick to my stomach and told her that she did not need to go continue with the second piercing, however she said she wanted to.
I have since asked her if she regretted having them done and if she had the chance again, knowing what she knows now, would she do it again and she said she didnt regret it but probably wouldnt do it again. Do I, as her mom, who has spent my life trying to keep her away from harm regret it, nope, I see how happy she is!
I feel stronger on other parenting issues such as those who fail to regulary provide healthy and nutrious meals, parents who fail to give children opportunity to part take in regular exercise. these are issues that have a life long negative impact.
I think as a parent we have a responsibilty to our children, I wouldnt feel happy having my childrens ears pierced until thery showed a level of maturity and understanding so that they are able to contribute in making an informed choice. theres a balance to be had, but 18?? really??

I remember getting my ear pierced at the old jewellers where now it's the 3G shop. She was a new girl and boss eyed. Approaching leftfield (which I believe she believed was straight on) she dropped the stud from the gun and proceeded to pick it back up and place it back in. A more experienced member of staff was on hand to advise that perhaps she ought to go out the back and tend to some tea making or box folding.

I went to F Hinds to enquire about booking an appointment and was told they could do there and then so erm... I have! The girl who did them was very knowledgeable and gave me lots of info because it was obvious I was concerned about it, she made me feel at ease.
she did use a gun - a different one for each ear but they came from a box I assume they use for everyone's and went straight back in the box after (don't know if they get sterilised later or anything) but to be fair the ear rings were in a sealed container and she made me confirm it was totally sealed and it had plastic bits holding the earrings and the plastic bits are what is used to push the ear ring in so the gun itself didn't go near my ear - only the sealed and disposed of plastic bits did.

I'm quite happy with it all atm - I'll see how it goes! I'm scared to touch my ears!

Thanks for the info Vault_girl...I had mine done when I was 17 and lived in the Midlands, daughter wants hers done this summer but I'm not so sure....but it helps to know where's the best place to go....she will probably change her mind before summer gets here!

Do you still have to keep them in for 6 weeks, and twist them everyday etc, and do you get a choice of earings?

Nooooooo!!!!

It is best to avoid rotating any body piercing, whilst it is in the healing period, unless necessary for cleaning it (which ideally is with sea salt solution).

Can I also reiterate that piercing guns should be avoided- they cannot be properly sterilised, and their use can cause tissue damage. Piercing by a qualified reputable piercer using sterile needles is far preferable. Sticking holes in yourself is something to be taken seriously...

I'm sorry, but you're wrong. I was told to turn my sleepers everyday for 6 weeks, mine were pierced almost 40yrs ago too. a little bit of vaseline would help the process too.
Have you got any piercings then Henryscat?

I was specifically told to twist as it stops the body healing TO the stud. she said half a turn clockwise and half a turn anticlockwise is enough twice a day and the butterfly at the back shouldnt be up against the lobe as the lobe can heal over it (eek!). Someone who got a bar in his ear last week has told me how it "sticks" when he twists it sometimes - I don't want that!!!

the woman in F Hinds was a qualified piercer and she has been doing them for man years

Yep 6 weeks to stay in. the piercing is "free" with the earrings and you get 20% off your next set. And a free bottle of ear sanitiser to take away for twice-daily cleaning. - She went through everything beforehand with me because I asked lots of questions and the said she had to go through it again afterwards so I felt quite happy she was going through it so much.

F Hinds had about 8 or 9 different studs - 3 x 14Ct yellow gold ones and 3 x 14ct white gold ones - a big round stud, a little round stud and one with a cubic zironia in, then a 9ct stud which she didn't recommend because she has known a couple of people to react to those in the past and a couple down the bottom which I didn't really look at tbh. - they were all on a display stand she brought over for me to choose off. I went for the little white gold 14Ct studs. Though I am thinking I might have been better with the cubic Ziconia as you have to twist them a few times a day and the small stud is quite hard to get hold of.

I went to Home bargains on the way back to the office and bought a big bottle of hand sanitiser for my desk and one to go in my handbag so I can keep twisting them.

I had a 'bit' pierced about 6years ago now, it was recommended that I used salt water to bathe the piercing in, it didn't half bleed a lot. I had quite a reaction the the ring, it was made of titanium, so eventually swopped it for a gold 1. No problems whatsoever after that.
Can I be rude and ask how much it cost to have your ears done?
My dad paid £4.50, 38yrs ago for me to have mine done.

How strange, when I had my piercing I had a reaction to the gold bar and had to swap it to titanium! It also affected my ear piercings and I can no longer wear gold earings either, even though id had them pierced over 10 years before!

I can only wear gold or silver now, bit of a ball ache when you can buy so many nice 'cheapies' these days. Even if I was to put them on my own hooks, if it touches my skin, then I come up in a rash, which then starts to bleed.

I have several piercings... And I've taken the time to do my homework!! I also go to a piercer who really knows their stuff and who I trust completely. I stand by everything I've said- you should keep movement of piercings when healing to a minimum i.e only when cleaning them and even then only as much as necessary for cleaning.
