I can only wear gold or silver now, bit of a ball ache when you can buy so many nice 'cheapies' these days. Even if I was to put them on my own hooks, if it touches my skin, then I come up in a rash, which then starts to bleed.

I can only wear solid gold or silver as well. Can always tell when it's 'gold or silver plated' because my ears flare up . Gold plated necklaces turn my neck black as well. (Caught Samuels out when they put an extra (supposedly)gold link in a watch and my wrist went black ;) )
Can't wear those nice looking cheapo earings - my ears go all sticky within minutes.

I would like my belly button repierced but have been told its more painful the second time round due to the scar tissue? also think fast approaching fourty, perhaps I'm getting too old.

I was specifically told to twist as it stops the body healing TO the stud. she said half a turn clockwise and half a turn anticlockwise is enough twice a day and the butterfly at the back shouldnt be up against the lobe as the lobe can heal over it (eek!). Someone who got a bar in his ear last week has told me how it "sticks" when he twists it sometimes - I don't want that!!!
Piercings will not heal to the metal.
The reason why the bar you refer to "sticks" will be because of discharge. Cleaning/soaking with sea salt solution will free it off. All this about having to twist piercings is crap.

the woman in F Hinds was a qualified piercer and she has been doing them for man years
.

"Qualified" in using a gun and not much else.

'Face furniture' is one of my favourite terminologies of recent years.

p.s. you are all quite mad - why would you do this to yourselves?

Why not, I say!

Piercings don't have to be in your facial area... I had some "arm furniture" for a couple of years...

I'm a massive puff and haven't had any 'furniture' or anything of the like!
I have one pair of clip on pearl earings I put on for special occasions......

I had my lobes pierced in F Hinds many many many moons ago, with a gun, and have let them heal over because the holes were wonky.
I had my upper ear pierced with a needle in Ambience in three places, on three different occasions. Only one of those remains in place due to endless infections.

Apparently, my body severely objects to having bits of metal shoved through it.

If I were to get another piercing I would 1) only have needle 2) only have hoops (I find them much easier to clean than studs) and 3) only use surgical steel for the initial new bit of metal.

When I went, Ambiance used solid steel which they used pliers to close into place. Easy to clean but a pain to remove when the healing period is over and once you decide to remove the new hoop it's unusable.

My favourite antiseptic was the spray on Savlon.

Agree with only using a needle for piercings. However.... In general bars are better for the initial jewellery in piercings as they move less and are less prone to knocks. They do need careful cleaning, but soaking them usually does the trick. I don't like the sound of pliers being required!!

Also, in general, antiseptic plus piercings is a no-no!! Safest thing to use is sea salt plus boiled water.

Took the child (7) to get her ears pierced at Ambiance this morning...

Amy did the peircing and she was great, really patient with my daughter and explained everything that would happen too :) Thanks Amy!

Any advice....

Child 8 had her ears (lobes) pierced just 7 weeks ago.

School is adamant that she has to take her earings out for PE (and swimming lessons which are due to start shortly), so in the last few days we have been changing her earings, daughter can take them out but has trouble getting the backs back on them.

I was called into school today as she was distressed (hysterical)... she had taken them out, but couldn't get one back in - bless her, she had tried really hard and in the process made her ear bleed :(

Now school are not allowed to help, they are not allowed to tape over them now either...the only thing I can think if doing is to take them out on the morning of PE, but - the advice when having them done was to leave in for 6 weeks then only remove them to change them & not to leave them out completely for the first 6 months?

Grrr... anyone with recently pierced ears? are they ok to be left out all day? Are there any earings that are easy to put back in?

If she isn't allowed to tape over them then my advice would be leave them in and write a letter excusing her from PE and swimming until the 6 weeks is up. It's never a good idea to take out a piercing (one you want to keep, at least) before it's healed and schools should not be allowed to do this, at least not without parental permission.

Hi Lunar, the 6 weeks was up last week....the advice used to be not to remove for 6 weeks & then you could do what you wanted with them....now they seem to say you can change them after 6 weeks but don't leave them out for at least 6 months...I've had few piercings myself but things seem to of changed a lot since then!

Think a trip back to the piercer tomorrow is called for....God knows how she made it bleed though & the hysterics were amazing!

Hi littleme,

I don't suppose these would be suitable? http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2126566.htm

They have a hinge like mechanism at the back which you just knock down to secure the earring in place. I don't know whether your daughter would find these much easier to manage? They have alternative ones available with the anorak fitting.

Hope this helps :)
Anything is better than those stupid butterfly backs...
