Where to buy mens suits in Stafford

Asda also sell suits. Not brilliant, but cheaper than spending a fortune and then having it shoved to the back of the wardrobe till the next time. And then there's no guarantee that it will fit.
We bought his 6th form prom shirt, jacket and trousers from Asda, as that was all I could afford at the time. But felt for son when the rest of the group turned up in expensive looking suits. He still wore that suit for a few years after to any events, and it's still in our wardrobe....

Outlook haven't got any black suits at all in stock according to the sales assistant.

Blacks must have thought I wasn't posh enough to afford their expensive suits. Just carried on his conversation and never acknowledged me.

Primark were cheap but looked like one wash wonders.

Saw a couple of possibles in Marks , so might show him those quickly before going to Acapella so that he can compare.

Saw what might be ok in Next as well.

Started walking across to Matalan but decided I'd had enough suit hunting. Just wanted to get back home for a cuppa by that time!

I remember back in the 80's when still living at home in Wolverhampton taking my Mom round all the menswear shops as she was buying me a suit for my 18th birthday. We must have spent all day going round the High street chain shops (Topman, Burtons, Fosters!) and the numerous independent menswear shops Wolverhampton had back then. I'm sure we ended going back to the first shop we started at!

Thought I'd do a lot of the wandering around today , so that we only have to visit shops likely to have what he wants.
Makes life easier for me in the end ;)

I know sons tastes...left to hubby he would have the cheapest one which makes him look about 90yrs old

Sent a million messages reminding him not to forget to pack his black shoes....

I would recommend greenwoods. Very good suits ar reasonable prices. I buy a lot of suits. You get what you pay for. I wouldn't recommend Matalan or Primark. Pay a little more and get alot better.

Was on my way to Greenwoods and got a maccies on the way...then forgot all about Greenwoods! Going back down to meet him at the station tomorrow , so will pop in whilst down there.

The one in Apacella felt and looked a quality one , but will see if it fits and what it's like on. He only had the one black suit in the one size..

Found Burtons and Topman completely crap since they are in Outfit ! He used to buy most of his clothes from those shops.

Want to pay for a good one though, that will wear well and he will feel really good in.

I agree totally. I too buy a lot of suits. I always have mine hand made to measure in London, but if you can’t afford that then the options in Stafford now are limited to Black’s, or Greenwood ‘s if they have anything left before they close. (Black’s is vastly superior to Greemeoods, which are adequate but no better). There is nowhere else I would consider, even in an emergency.

As Markpa rightly says, you get what you pay for. Nothing looks worse, or more obvious, than a cheap suit. As a guide, for a made to measure suit you are lookIng at starting around £2-3000, or if you skimp on the fabric quality it might be slightly less I imagine. Some tailors charge double that and, as with most things, the more you pay the better the quality.

The stuff in Primark, T K Max and the like will only be fit for mopping the floor, as would be any suit you bought from a supermarket. The days of Burton’s selling anything of quality are long gone, and Next is just full of overpriced tat that is no better than Primark. If you are absolutely desperate you could probably make do with one of the top of the range from M&S in an emergency, but it would be wear-once option, they lose their shape the minute you sit down in them, and the fabric and stitching quality is extremely poor. I have never heard of Acapela, but a shop that only has one black suit, take it or leave it, is not even worth considering.

Looks like you will just have to make do with whatever you can get now for Wednesday, but for the graduation you’ve got a bit more time to prepare. He obviously won’t wear the same suit to the funeral as to his graduation, and then he’ll need a few more when he starts work.

Can't afford 2 suits ...and definitely not starting anywhere around £2000-£3000 :o Wouldn't dare come home to tell hubby I'd wiped out the bank accounts

He's going to be buying one mainly for his graduation, but will wear it for the funeral if he manages to get one tomorrow. Then it will be going on special nights out and any interviews for future jobs . (Although on his skype interviews with China, he wore his old jacket, posh shirt and boxer shorts .....he was offered the job :D )

Hopefully he likes the one you've found. For work it's going to be about how he performs rather than the price tag on the suit, so don't let the troll confuse things here, I am sure the suit is great for what he needs it for.

I haven't worn a suit for nearly 30 years.
I am struggling to comprehend how a grown man can function for 30 years without wearing a suit.

Clearly you are just in a manual job that doesn’t require a suit for work, but surely in all that time you must have had at least one interview (for the job you’ve got now even if no others), plus assorted weddings, funerals and christenings. Have you not had to attend any presentations? Not even dinner parties? Church? I really am stunned.

I wear suits at least six, often seven, days a week (different one every day obviously) often 2 a day if I have an evening appointment, and I cannot understand how (or why) you have coped without them for so long.

So where do you buy your £2 suits from then? :) £2 to £3000 is quite a difference in price isn't it?

Which particular shops in London would you recommend for a reasonable suit?
