Parking in Stafford.

Looking for some emergency car parking if all the other car parks are full. Had a gander at Google Earth and noticed this myself driving past. How do you gain access to the following car parks:-

1. Car park coming into Stafford along B5066 Sandon Road, opposite the Four Crosses pub and near to the mini-roundabout on Browning Street. There's a barrier on entrance and exit, no signs AFAIK, can anyone enter and exit and use this car park? Is it free? It's not on Stafford Borough Council website of car parks.
2. Lloyd Street car park -just off the same mini-roundabout - go along here and there's a narrow entrance on the left to another car park, no barriers. Is this open to everyone? Is this free?
3. Red Lion Street car park - this car park is next to the massive roundabout outside Gaolgate Square, accessed by traffic lights and a barrier. I've always wondered how you can use this car park. Is this free? Is this open to everyone??
4. The car park in Victoria Street down the side of the Murco petrol station is always a lifesaver as long as you don't mind a dent in your car.

If anyone knows about the car parks above and how to gain access, please enlighten me.

OK!! Thanks!! Is 2 usable by all or do you have to display a permit? Do the Constitutional Club bother checking?

I don't know - I have only ever parked in there once, to attend an event at the Club.

There may be members on here who might know what the situation actually is?

Any reason why you can't use the ones at Madford or Aldi or, I dunno, pay if you're going to be staying more than 2 hours?

I'd suggest walking/cycling or taking the bus in but as I don't know where you live that might not be practical.

I certainly wouldn't park my car in any of the ones you've mentioned.

The Victoria Street car park is a legitimate free car park - just a little 'hazardous' at peak times...

So free that there is a caravan parked in the bit across the road..

Well if you value a bit of free parking over the cost of getting the dents repaired on your car...

You can get bashed in any car park. My general rule is to park in the far corner anywhere, the crowded bits are where the problems are and where the worst drivers generally head for.

I've had vehicles hit on Tesco, Wilkinson's, Focus (now the Range) and the Water Street surgery car parks.

Part of the issue on Victoria Street may be the lack of bay lines? But, I've only ever used it once, to pick up some stuff from the Handyman.

Could someone advise on Friars Terrace on-street parking please?

Is it permits until 6.00pm and free thereafter?

It depends where you park on Friars Terrace. There are no restrictions yet on the Bear and Pheasant side of the road. As such, you can park all day. However, get there early because its used by rail commuters much to the annoyance of local residents. Permit parking is being introduced on this side of the road soon.

On the opposite side of FT it varies as to when you can park and for how long so read the signs carefully.

If I lived in Fairway and had a driveway but didn't own a car I would be leasing it out by now

If I had access to the levelled Castleworks site I would be presenting it as a car park

Perhaps the Chetwynd centre will become Stafford's fourth multistorey car park

I watched someone’s trolley roll into my car at Asda once. People are awful.

My mother’s trick was to find the nicest car she could to park next to, as they would be very careful not to dent their door generally.

The castleworks site is now a building site....

Completely unrelated to this post, however...

A couple of weeks ago i saw an unattended car roll into a group of stationary vehicles in lidls car park. A lot of very nice cars damaged.

And this is why I’m glad my dashcam has a battery-powered park mode

I've seen that happen a few months ago, on the sloping bit at the front, and it was a 'posh' car that did it...
