Used to be Alishans, then Aqua Balti. Its on the start of the Wolvo road, think it was Kebab King back in the day? Now Abdul owns it.

Spent many an evening in there playing the arcade games. Plus, if you paid £20 for a cone of chips, there was a suprise in the bottom ;)

Al'karims used to do a great 'special sandwich' but then they hiked the price up which i was ok with for(0.5k of meat with a massive naan) but THEN they went and shrunk the size of the box by 2" and therefore the contents :(

That was indeed nice, in a "I'm so stoned I'd eat the box, but lumps of spicy dead things are better" kinda way. Ate a fair few I can tell ya, but nowadays I like real food. Must be getting old.

Ive eaten in their Lichfield restaurant loads. The do absolutely great food. The castle tavern will also be having an Indian food night. I think its mostly by invite but there probably is some table free still. I hear its going to be proper Indian food made from scratch as opposed to being brought in (ie sauces etc...). The only thing they will be buying in the the popadoms and the naan bread.

While in no way wishing to diminish, what is an appalling catalogue of hygene disasters, I am constantly surprised by the standards at our resturants. As you can imagine, restaurants are liable to the odd kitchen fire, so we go in when no one has had a chance to clean up first. It is across the board, no matter what the style of cuisine. I've seen some horrifying stuff, and of course you take them off your list of prospective eateries!

And of course while I have been in a few kitchens, I have by no means been in them all, so I imagine I have eaten in any number of places where the hygene standards have been less than exemplary.

Sometimes you are better off not knowing!

I have now experienced what Panache has to offer and it was delicious. The service was very friendly, not overpowering. The food was delicious and very well presented . I asked the manager to recommend a dish to me (I would always go for the same thing). He recommended an award winning dish of Sea Bass. I wouldn't think of ordering fish in an Indian restaurant, but I had it and it was lovely. The decor was very modern and the eating area was very private. We only had one table in view. My only citicism would be that it's a little over priced.

:blah: and how does it compare to Malabar?
The last couple of times i've been to Malabar i've had fish. The first time I had Sea Bass and was very excited, only to be very disappointed. I  Sea Bass and have had it in a few other places and it's been top notch, but this was rubbish. I swore that next time I went I wouldn't have fish, but did exactly that and went for the Swordfish steak. Rubbish again. Not recommended.

What sort of prices are we talking, and how does it compare to Malabar?
I've not been to Malabar but the starters were about £6+ and from what I can remember the main courses ranged from about £12.95 to about £16.95 I can't remember any other prices, sorry I'm not too much help. The only thing I can say for definite was that it was lovely. Didn't have a pud. The size of the meals were average. Not loads of anything, just enough to eat and enjoy but not to stuff yourself.

Well I've just had one of the worst curries I've ever tasted, curtesy of my usual favourite Spice Delight. Starters were bland and undercooked, main course was quite frankly crap. I was afraid our taste buds may be playing up, so got my brother to try it. Said it was like a crap stew with some curry powder thrown in. Really dissapointed.

Called them up to tell them, they said they were busy tonight. I explained that we order a lot, and that tonight was extremely below par. They just said they'd give me 25% off my next order, but he couldn't wee what else he could do. Seriously doubt I shall order from them again, they have either hired a very poor new chef or just don't care what they put out anymore.

So, where else is worth trying?
