No speeding problem here then. Eight a week, just over one speeder caught per day. Hardly a speeding epidemic. I predict a lecture.
Those were just the small proportion of speeders who were too thick to brake at the speed camera and got caught - any habitual speeder familiar with a road will just slow for the cameras and accelerate in between. You can go out any time and see people slowing for those cameras, then speeding down the hill. If there was no problem, then nobody would get caught would they?

Your maths is also wrong because it is public knowledge that all of the fixed cameras are only activated for a certain proportion of time and are not active 365 days a year.

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
I never knew that fixed speed cameras weren't switched on all year round.

The A3024 in Southampton has a camera which catches 7264 people per year. Of course it is public knowledge that all of the fixed cameras are only activated for a certain proportion of time and are not active 365 days a year. Locals report that it flashes that often that they no longer need street lighting. This gives a bench mark compared to the 412 speeders there are on the Wolverhampton Road.

I'd be amazed if these two at Moss Pit were switched off as apparently they are a license to print money...

Although I'm sure that the hourly need to change the film in the cameras because of the sheer volume of speeders caught, means there must be some down-time when the 'evil' motorists get away with their crime.

I think you've missed the point...

You are trying to compare paving slabs with Tupperware.

The road in Southampton is a dual carriageway with a much much higher volume of traffic. You also have no idea of the percentage of time the Southampton camera was active compared to those in Staffordshire. There may also be a perception issue combined with not reading signs in Southampton, which is the drivers fault for not paying attention. On a single carriageway urban road, drivers know the limit to be 30 without signing.

You know, as others do, that 30 limits are flouted in Stafford. Please don't insult intelligence by trying to make out everyone is driving around at the limit. The fact remains people speed down the hill towards Acton Gate or in the other direction fail to slow to 30 on entering Stafford. Driving towards Acton Gate, after the last fixed camera, I have been overtaken several times when doing 30 in the 30 limit, and equally overtaken through Acton Gate doing 40 in the 40 limit. On the majority of occasions I drive that section of road either: the vehicle in front pulls away from me fairly rapidly or the one behind catches up quickly. This happens when I am doing 30. Unless the space time continuum in Moss Pit and Acton Gate is disrupted, they are exceeding the limit.

No problem, I have just posted on www.southamptonforum.com, that their locals can't read road signs. Not expecting any replies though as they will have to get an outsider to read the post to them.

I'll take it from the lack of substantive response that you accept that your "benchmark" was anything but.

I cant see any replies to your post there as the domain is up for sale and your link to the site does not lead to their forums, could you provide a more precise link to your topic please.

412 per year is not a substantive amount of tickets for any A road. Maybe some foliage in front of the camera may help you get it up a bit for next year.

Maybe your speedo is out ?

Most speedos do 'read up' a bit.

Equally, a lot of people just brake when they see a yellow box, just in case - they often don't know what they're doing or what they're supposed to be doing - better be 'safe'.

I severely doubt this persons speedo would be anything other than perfect. Calibrated by experts on a daily basis for sure.

Yup, see it every day on way to work, 35+ and then 25 past the cameras. That's what makes these cameras so bloody dangerous, they create erratic driving !!

Aye, there's nothing like spending the whole time looking at your speedometer and not at the road to enhance road safety eh? Personally I think that cruise control should be mandatory in all new cars, I use mine all the time even in town. It gives me peace of mind and frees up my time to flash my lights and give people the finger.
