Yup, see it every day on way to work, 35+ and then 25 past the cameras. That's what makes these cameras so bloody dangerous, they create erratic driving !!

It's the ones that brake for the 60mph cameras on the A34 that amaze me - is it really that hard to remember?

Personally I think that cruise control should be mandatory in all new cars, I use mine all the time even in town. It gives me peace of mind and frees up my time to flash my lights and give people the finger.

I had a couple of RS Megane's in the past and their cruise function also had a speed limiter mode, you set the limit with fingertips and drove normally, if you hit that speed then limiter kicks in, so around town you just set it to 30 and that was it. If you pressed accelerator hard enough it would override so if needed to speed up in an emergency you could.

412 per year is not a substantive amount of tickets for any A road. Maybe some foliage in front of the camera may help you get it up a bit for next year.
Maybe your speedo is out ?
Aye, there's nothing like spending the whole time looking at your speedometer and not at the road to enhance road safety eh? .

I wondered how long it would be before the predictable lines of fully paid up members of "SafeSpeed" was trotted out. Yawn.

The very simple fact remains, the limit is significantly exceeded with regularity at that location. Anyone other than a speed apologist would not have a problem acknowledging this.

Aye, the audi has the same kind of system, really useful pretty much all of the time. Wish I'd gone for the adaptive cruise option now, I will remember to spec that next time. The one in my boss's car is remarkable, I really like it.

Having not mentioned it I can only assume HC agrees with the notion of fitting cruise control to all cars but heaven forbid he is seen to agree with anything another person has said.

I don't deny the limit is exceeded a lot, I just don't give a feck.

I think variable speed limiters would be a good idea, the technology is all there.

HGVs and PSVs have to be speed limited, I don't see why cars shouldn't be either.

suppose there would be nothing wrong with limiting all cars to 80 mph at the factory as you should never need to go faster than this on a public road but give people the option to remove it easily i.e. a button on the dash

Surely a button on the dash would render it useless though?
I'd be pressing it all the time..........................

I don't have a problem with 80 on a motorway or dual carriageway in the right conditions - ie. fairly quiet, dry road, driver paying attention, well maintained vehicle.........................problem is the pillocks who do 40-45 in 30 limits, usually whilst using phone or not concentrating in some other way.
Speed itself will not cause many accidents BUT it will make the result of an accident much worse, especially in an urban area where cyclists & pedestrians are about.

Kinetic energy equals one half of the mass times the square of the velocity.

Big difference between being hit at twenty and hit at thirty, for example.

That's not really true, as reaction time at any one point in time is fixed regardless of speed and thus a higher velocity increases distance traveled before reaction, it also increases braking distance and may reduce stability in a swerve if your level of driving is only to the standard required to pass the test.

So whilst it doesn't cause accidents as such, it can significantly reduce the chances of avoiding one.
