Bus service changes

Bus travel hasn’t gotten any better then, I see. In fact, it’s gotten worse.

I’m so glad I passed my driving test two years ago. I do not miss using the bus at all.

This was not one of the options in the survey regarding service/subsidy cuts. One is not feckin impressed!!
There's two things going on here:
  1. The County Council are chopping subsidies, which impacts on some Monday to Saturday daytime services and just about all evening services; and
  2. Commercial operators (e.g. Arriva) are cutting back less profitable 'commercial' services which, I think, is why the Sunday services are disappearing.
A sort of double whammy. And its not just locally that's being affected. See Britain's bus coverage hits 28-year low and that's before this year's cuts.

Nationalise the bus companies. That'll get them back to running efficiently. Why they were ever privatised is beyond me.

quite simply to line the pockets of Tory government and their donors.

sell everything we have , then privatise everything ... those that cant afford suffer, those that can get a sub standard service or no service whatsoever.

Its a triple whammy. In the days of the old corporation bus services, money from the profitable routes subsidised the loss making, but socially necessary, routes.

Now:
  1. Many loss making routes have been removed, resulting a much reduced, or in some places non-existent, service.
  2. The remaining loss making routes are paid for by Council Tax payers.
  3. The money from the profitable routes goes to shareholders, few of whom will ever use a bus.

Thanks for the update cj1.

So the last Parkside bus will be 18.41, fantastic!!! I am now totally screwed if I work late or fancy a swift half after work.

The SCC chosen option pdfs stated that the last bus would be 20.41, the buses before 20.41 aren't subsidised according to what they previously published and now these are being cut. This was not part of their so called "in-depth consultation process".

The lying bus turds!

Because buses before 20:41 are being cut it doesn't mean that scc have lied about the subsidy. It could be that a commercial decision has been made to to cut earlier less popular services as there is no extra cash coming in later in the night due to the subsidy removal. As it no longer makes commercial sense to keep then running. This is what happened to Sunday services as subsidy has stopped on Sundays all services that ran on an unsubsidised basis have also been cut as it not worth them opening the depo to allow the commercial services to run.

They have lied because the "chosen option" details that they published stated my last bus would be 20.41 not 18.41.

No doubt there are other services that are likewise being curtailed earlier than the consultation said but I only know the Parkside buses.

Plus the "in depth" consultation only spoke about cutting subsidised services not "we can't be arsed to open the depot" services.

Yes it's annoying for anybody impacted by the cuts but you can't blame scc for the additional cuts to non-subsided services arriva have decided to implement for commercial reason's

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
I can see the bus service in Stafford being scrapped completely in a few years.

Can't see it myself. Even if all subsidies were scrapped some services would still run on a commercial basis
