Bus service changes

I've just had a written reply from Amanda Milling MP for Cannock Chase who is campaigning for retaining some Sunday services in the Midlands.

She is challenging Arriva's reasons for not opening their depot on a Sunday hence cutting subsidised routes as well.

She has also kindly passed on my complaint to my local constituent, a certain Mr Lefroy, so that will get things sorted out quickly I'm sure.

So after a letter from Amanda Milling explaining what she is doing to fight the cuts in bus services I have now received a letter from Jeremy Lefroy which is summarised as follows:

One paragraph explaining why bus services are important - I friggin know this which is why I made contact in the first place!

Two paragraphs of total bollox about how much the government is investing in our buses!!

One paragraph saying he is acutely aware of the cuts to the number 8 service and that he did make a number of alternative proposals but they weren't adopted. He also says as an MP bears responsibility for grant cuts - wow!!

One paragraph on how he intends to speak the DoT and the Council about other providers taking over some of the routes. Too little too late, matey!!! Plus weren't the DoT changed to the DfT in circa 1997?

Final sentence - I am being encouraged to contact the County council directly to make sure my views are known.

What the feck is this useless twat doing for our constituency??

Enjoying a drop of red.

He and his Tory mates have put a stop to free school meals for the less fortunate children in our society

( sneakily voted in whilst everyone was blaming Russia for killing UK Residents , Although the Tories dont need any help with that as they can manage that on their own )

If anyone is planning on using Arriva buses today I recommend that you check whether your bus is running.

Apparently they are running a revised timetable today but the driver couldn't tell me what that meant so I have no idea if I have a bus home after the match today.

Their journey planner has buses that definitely aren't running. The driver suggested checking at the information desk in the Guildhall.

Looks like the subsidy cuts have started a day early.

Just found out that there is a new 21st century bus timetable in operation in Stafford.

So last week I could catch a number 8 bus from the Picturehouse to Parkside. This bus came from Mosspit.

Today the number 8 runs from Gaol Square to Parkside and there is a number 7 that runs from Mosspit to Riverside and then goes out of service to Gaol Square to become the number 8 to Parkside.

Today's bus driver explained that to go from Parkside to Mosspit is now two separate journeys and would need two c£2.50 tickets compared to the one £2.50 that was ok last week.

Apparently the terminating the services in town is to connect with the new H hospital service?

In addition the new H hospital service doesn't run via the station anymore.

So much for an integrated transport service for our town but it is nice that we are able to line the fat cats of Arriva's pockets who I'm sure will equally line the fat pockets of the appropriate authorities' pockets

I'm really confused - are there now no buses at all that go from the train station up Lichfield rd? The internal errors on the avivia website aren't making this an easy search

Doesnt look like it. Traveline is suggesting buses to the Sun or Cope Street and walking.

The closest bus stop would probably be Mill Bank but I'm not sure what services run that way anymore.

Just checked the timestables by the bus stop opposite the station and the services now stopping there are
5, 9, 101, 877, 878, 54 and 54A.

The bus to the hospital doesn't even go near the station now.

The information sign states passengers for Lichfield road go to Earl Street.

There were 6 people who'd been there an hour waiting for an 825.

Arriva on twitter suggest walking to Pilgrim Street (next to Couture) to catch the 828 to st. Leonards

My guess is it's easier to go to the ones opposite the college / back of the guildhall. (which I've just learnt is Earl street)

So if nothing else I've learnt two new street names so that's fun...

The route for the 828 is Rowley Grove to Pilgrim street then the Sun to the Lichfield road.

It's like they are deliberately running the services where nobody wants to go for some reason.

Just be grateful you don't depend on the 112 Tavistock to Dawlish bus service in Devon. It only runs (one return journey) on the 5th Saturday of the month, between April and September.

When I saw Tavistock to Dawlish, I thought it was a bit lazy to take a bus for that - it's only a few hundred yards - up Yelverton, across Porlock into Tiverton, then maybe stop in the Bod for some refreshment before the final few yards?

You couldn't make it up could you, isn't there anyone out there that could put a couple of minbuses on just from town centre to hospital and back again? typical bloody bus service they do as they please. I went to get on a Gnosall bus in Earl Street probably last year sometime and the driver told me I could only get on the bus from Chell Road so I ran across wilkies car park and made it before the bloody bus came round from Earl Street. WHAT!!!!!

Dude, the new 'H' service goes from outside Scaffoldshire Place (in front of the new Register Office) to the Hospital and back again.

Guess this is the best place for a bus route question.

What's up with the Cannock/Lichfield bus routes.

I'm somewhat reliably informed that they don't stop or pick up outside the railway station anymore.

Nor do they go past the hospital.

What's up with that?
