I'm a little confused andreas as to how this man ended up sliding towards your wall. if he was coming from doxey he'd have to swerve hard right and if he was going towards doxey he'd have surly slid acroos the road into the railing. I'm baffled although this is not uncommon.

Hear'd you had to be excavated today. Top man for sleeping through it, glad no one's seriously injured.

Now you mention it...

*rubs aching neck*
and presumably the tremor completely smashed your 50" LCD TV, yeah?
Correctamundo. It would have been fine if my £100k antique chandelier hadn't dropped from the ceiling.

Just spoken to the bloke and he's fine...skidded on ice and lost control. No injuries and, unbelievably, the car only has scratches and both front wheels screwed. Very lucky.
I once delivered something to a house in a village not too far away and was confronted by a £25,000 chandelier hanging down to three feet from the floor. It would have looked a bit over-the-top in Shugborough. I managed to manouever the object past it, but then found that my hair was snagged in the chandelier without leaving me enough leeway to lower the goods to the floor and release myself. The owner of the premises took about five minutes to release me. By this stage I nearly had a hernia. Don't joke about chandeliers, I have been having flashbacks all day.

Not a clue, but hoping in the next couple of weeks. I've not had a call from them yet, but have had a couple of builders round to do quotes already so am well prepared.

RESULT! I had the following letter posted through my door this morning:

Cllr Maureen Compton said:
Dear Resident,

STOP PRESS - RESIDENTS PARKING SCHEME

I am very please to let you know that there will be a Residents Parking Scheme at Castletown. Over 90% of Castletown residents who responded to a consultation are backing the establishment of a residents parking scheme. This is likely to be the first in Staffordshire.

As your local councillor, I proposed the residents parking scheme and have been working very hard behind the scenes to ensure that it happened. The consultation has shown how popular the idea is. You have informed me how fed up you are with having to battle for a parking space in your own street. Parking spaces in Castletown are very limited. I also pay tribute to your Residents Association who have also worked by encouraging you all to respond to the questionnaire.

The final details of the scheme are being firmed up. The next stage will be to advertise the change in the parking regulations, and then put the new signs and lines on the ground. This could take several months to complete. However, we have reached this stage and I shall continue to monitor the situaiton for you all.

I have been very willing to spearhead this project and I am delighted that you, the residents, believe that this is the right way forward.

Yours sincerely,

Cllr Maureen Compton
Woop! Power to the people! That's great news for all concerned. Well done to Tom Sofa for his tireless door knocking to make sure as many responses as possible were sent. Good stuff.

They put down the first phase of Stafford's Eastern By-Pass in 1938, if that's any guide. 71 years so far.
