Im getting increasingly frustrated with my dentist - I got to the one nr St Marys (nest to Ambiance) I've always been told that its really hard to get into a dentists and one you have secured a place you must attend yearly appointments else they drop you off the books and your doomed to a life of tooth ache!?

Anyway I pay £17, spend ages waiting, you can 100% guarantee that if your appointment is at 1pm you don’t go in till 1.30pm, EVERY time there at least half an hour behind - how do they not realise this?

That £17 also covers a visit to the hygienist - who gives you 2 entire mins of her time and does a shite job.

The dentist himself is okay, he speaks very quietly and quickly so I tend to miss everything he says - after that half an hour delay I'm in there literally for 30 seconds, he counts my teeth (there still there you havent taken any out!) says something indecipherable and sends me on my way!

I feel I’m missing a trick here - where do you go? Is this cheap/ expensive? Is it the same everywhere?

Thankyou!

There is this thread if you are after NHS recommendations:

NHS dentists in Stafford

I haven't merged the two threads though, in case anyone wants to post about private dentist practices (or dentists in general) in this thread. :)

I go Stafford Dental Practice on the Wolverhampton Rd, i pay monthly (think it's £15 a month) and with that i get two yearly check-ups with 2 hygiene check-ups, both of which are thorough, I've also had a crown and root canal, whilst I didn't look forward to either and there was no hard sale (I waited for months to pluck up the courage for the root canal) both were done really well, I can't complain, other than the cost I guess!

On a couple of occasions I've had my teeth X-rayed, just so the complaint I had with tooth ache is examined thoroughly.

Whilst he's a bit of a character Jason (Greenwood) knows his stuff and Bev is also a winner in my eyes, and so, the practice is my recommendation.

The way i look at it is, i could spend more on my night out each weeeknd than i do each month i pay towards the upkeep of my pearlys.

I go to Oriel on the corner of the one way system as you go into town (past the big car park which was riverside.) I pay about £15 a month and thats for 2 hygienist visits and 2 check ups per year. Any treatment is extra, but they are taking new patients and are friendly and run on time :)

IMHO the best dentist in Stafford is Graham Manzie who works out of Church Lane dental practice. Its £12 a month to be on the scheme or you can pay as you go, but as the monthly fee includes check ups, scale and polish and a substantial discount off further treatment I personally think its worth it.
Like most places you may well have to wait for a bit though as appointments can run over.

I should say I have very good reasons for my recommendation, but as I have found in the past some people would rather save literally just a few pounds and get a lesser standard of treatment somewhere else. You pay your money and take your chances I guess....

All dentists, by their very nature, are sharks.

Some have cleaner teeth than others.

Long live the privatisation of the NHS!

TCRL, £15 covers the two annual check ups, and two hygienist check-ups (scale and polish), that £15 a month also gets you discount off further treatments.

All's i can say is i've been happy with the service, if i could get the same service on the NHS i'd of course be thrilled but for not bothering to find out i just don't know if they exist.

It's like private health care, i'm a tax payer so why pay for private health care if i've the NHS, same goes for private dentists but for some reason in my eyes it's more excepted in as much as 'it's what we do' type thing, just pay through the teeth to get results.

If you can find an NHS dentist and by all means go check them out, try and get in on one as the savings (i'm sure you know) are incredible.

...bytheway, who's looking after your rats teeth, could you not go the same place?

I have been going to Oriel Dentist (now near to Police Station) for about 10 years.
Excellent service, polite and friendly staff.

I pay monthly, same kinda terms as described in an earlier post.

And the hygenist is a babe!

Another Recommendation is "Pure Dental Solutions". Originally based above the Doctors Surgery at Castlefields, now operating from Eccleshall Road.

I pay monthly for yearly checkups/hygiene appointments as per similar posts above.

I've been with them for years and would recommend to anyone. I pay because I have no worries about going to see my dentist which a lot of other people do. For that piece of mind, it's worth the price to me.

Going on the basis that I only have one set of teeth so they deserve the best!! I throughly recommend David Gardner at Pure Dental Solutions on the Eccleshall Rd. Best dentist I've ever had. I'm slightly phobic of dentists, and he manages to do complex work and keep me calm and pain free. Quite an achievement :). A top top bloke. It cost like, but is worth every penny.

OK, I am loathe to post this as I don't want to name names, but I think it's important that people are aware of their choices.

I recently attended a Stafford dentist after not having a dental exam for about 2 years. I thought registering at a local dentist would be better than continuing with my old one from where I used to live, but I was wrong.

The new dentist informed me that I needed all of my molars filling, and was going to do it there and then, sticking amalgam into my mouth for the first time in my life, without even taking xrays. The drill and local anaesthetic were at the ready and all I had to do was agree to have treatment done in two installments, which would cost me over £60 on the glorious NHS.

I told the dentist where to stick it and said I would be in touch. Paid my £17-whatever for the exam (which didn't include any kind of scale or polish, just a peek in my mouth and a quick poke around).

I rang up my old dental surgery and got an appointment for a week or so later.

THIS dentist examined my teeth, took xrays and did a full clean and polish. She told me she'd like to see me in a year. I haven't heard anything more, so the xrays must not have been too much of a worry.

Now, please please please everyone be aware you don't have to consent to treatment and you can seek a second opinion. I was so upset to be told I needed all my teeth drilling and filling and the attitude from the dentist was less than comforting, in fact it was downright rude, confrontational and extremely high pressure.

I know it can be frightening and worrying to be told your mouth is full of holes by someone in a powerful position, such as leaning over you with a drill, but be sure you are comfortable with your dentist before agreeing to such invasive work, and if they are pressuring you in a way that makes you uncomfortable you tell them so, or make excuses and get out.

Don't sign anything you aren't happy with and find another dentist (even another surgery if you prefer) to be sure you are getting the right treatment.

p.s. please don't ask me to name the surgery.

I wish you would duck, I haven't been a dentist in 5years and it's sheer terror that keeps me away from them. Can you at least tell us the name of your old dentist please?
