Must try harder.

I believe that you can only donate three times in a calendar year these days. It used to be four times.

( Actually donations must be seperated by 16 weeks now. So you could just squeeze four in - or out. )

Q How much blood will I lose?
A Only about 470 ml, which is just under a pint, and not, as some have thought, quite an armful.
I presume they actually do it by weight and assume a similar density for everybody. It would be a pint - if you're American.

A+ for me too, its the only blood group I believe in ha ha

I'm going for my next appointment sometime in September I think, they reckon supplies are going to be hit hard this year due to swine flu as not as many will be able to donate, anyone else heard that/

I have requested that they should have special sessions for us A+ élite - I really don't like being in the same room as the Os, but that's this modern haematological correctness for you.
I agree with that, an excellent idea. Us normal O's dont want the freakish genetic mutants that are A's, B's and worst of all AB's in with us pure breds.
I'm O+ (common as muck, LOL) - not quite pure bred though, my parents are both mutants! I get it from my grandads.

Haven't given blood in a while, not sure I will again - I think I need all mine! Every time I have given blood they had to bring out the big blue block, except one time I didn't faint and got a bruise instead! Also there was one time when my iron was just under the safe level to give blood. Still got my card though - never know, it might come in handy.

Give it another go and don't stand straight up from lying down - sit on the side of the bed for a minute before attempting to stand up, take it in stages - and have the squash, not the tea. It's only fainting, it won't kill you ( unless you do it in the middle of the Chell Road Pelican Crossing, like I did the first time! )

I'm convinced that it's good for you. We're intended for running about through the East African savannah, not sitting on our arses typing crap - and an element of random wounding is expected by the system. We need to keep it functional. Otherwise, on the occasion when you do need it, it will be like trying to turn of the stop-cock when you've got a water leak, only to find that it's stuck open through years of lack of use.

Oh, and when he says 'pure bred', I think he actually means 'in-bred'.

I'm an O+, like so many other here. I like to think of myself as "useful" rather than "common". Any O negs here? The most prized blood group, give to almost anyone.

Delusions such as this are common amongst the lower orders. Fairly harmless, but not to be encouraged.

Personally, this card thingy in my wallet says O Rh Neg ... Sounds like some kind of net speak. O Rh Neg! ORly, kthxbye!.

"Rh negative blood indicates no protein connections to the Rhesus monkey, whereas rh positive blood does carry protein linked to the Rhesus monkey - hence the 'rh', i.e. rhesus. Blood type 'O' is the most common. Blood type 'A' is next, and blood type 'B' is after that."

I didn't get up too quickly, they usually had to take the needle out early... I always had the squash, wasn't fan of hot drinks since I rediscovered tea in the last year or two.

Stafford is full of in-breds.

Rhesus negative people carry protein linked to the chimpanzee instead.

I have just successfully excreted some of the finest bodily fluids known to man. I nearly failed the iron test ( first stage ), but we had a second go after I had shook some of the goodness back in, and so I managed to pass that eventually. Everything else after that went OK.

The worst part is that you are required to listen to Heart FM and its seemingly inexhaustible supply of 'power ballads', or, to give them thier correct title - 'maudlin shite'. I wonder if there is some clinical necessity in it - it certainly raised my blood pressure somewhat....

My body was reluctant to give up its fluids today, three twiddles with the needle, and I had to keep pumping with my hand till I got pins and needles, still we got there eventually, I expect someone will be glad to get it, once they have sieved the lumps out of it.

I understood that it was like A levels and O levels. The system was intended to show the clear distinction between high-grade blood and the run-of-the-mill stuff.

This would explain my fascination with swinging on ropes, grinning broadly, answering to the name "cheeta" and it would explain why those Russian scientists sent me to space. I never made it back.
