The curious thing is that, in the 'window' that pops up when you edit, the return key doesn't appear to have done anything. If you are (god help you) anything like me, that means you hit the return key ~7 times before admitting defeat. If you then 'save changes' there will be seven line breaks...
When you click Edit, if you click the More Options... button it will take you to the normal message composition screen, which you may find preferable, given the problems you appear to be having. :)

Hello Admin, just a couple of querys.......I mostly use my mobile phone to view the forum, I have a fairly old phone (i.e. not a blackberry or iphone) so therefore use Opera Mini as a phone browsers it shows the pages in mostly web format and not as a wap page. I have signed up to RSS feeds but have noticed the RSS feeds dont seem to show me all new messages on the forum just some of them. I had posted on the new members thread, but the RSS feed didnt tell me there were any replies, should it do? Also, is there an easy way to upload pictures to the site via my mobile phone? I tried and the page gave me a whole load of code but no instructions as to where to put it! (My Opera Mini browser wont allow me to cut and paste either). Last thing, promise...when I try to post a message on the forum from my mobile I get a message saying that the function is only available in post, and to go back and try again, it lead to me posting the same thing 4 times! Help please! (Cant remember the exact wording of the message, but will put it on when I see it again) When I click Post Reply, I get this message - This action is available via POST only. Please press the back button and try again.

I suspect a lot of your problems stem from using Opera Mini, which tries to speed up your Internet browsing by doing all the hard work on their servers then just sending a picture of the result to your phone[sup]*[/sup]. The errors your are getting about POST relate to entering data in forms (e.g. posting a message, filling in a box, etc.), so I suspect something is getting lost in translation.

Alas, I don't access The Forum with any mobile devices, and I have never used a Blackberry in my life, so I can't really answer your questions beyond that, I'm afraid. :(

* That's a very simplified version of what really happens, but it will do for now! :P

You can either click the 'Private message' tab under the user's avatar (see to the left, under my pic), or hover over 'Inbox' (top-right of your screen) and then click 'Start a New Conversation' in the bottom of the box.

If you go the 2nd way then you can start typing the desired user's name in the 'Recipients' box and it will show all the matches to the word you're typing. Just click on the right one(s) and then type your message in the big box below and send it.

Thanks Andreas, I'll have a go at that. :)

How do I edit this?
Just wondering why the search function excludes all three letter words? I've had to resort to google with the site operator to find threads more than once because of it. For instance if you search sun inn, you get no results at all. If you search car showroom it excludes the important word and the top result is a thread on flooring.

This is a limitation of MySQL (the database software that Stafford Forum, and most forums on the Internet, is based on) I'm afraid.

At one time I was thinking of integrating Google Search (i.e. it's Google search for Stafford Forum), for reasons such as this, but never got round to finishing it:

If people would like me to add a link to this along the top, I can. :)

Problem- if the 'five minute edit time' expires while I am editing a post, I then lose my edits. Is there any way around that?

Forum O. G.
I've just discovered that you can only have a maximum of eight images in a single post. It's simple enough to split them up, of course, but it's worth knowing so that you don't have to mess about too much..

I thought I'd replied to the message yesterday and just tried again but don't seem to have the option to reply (very odd)
It's probably worth pointing out that the 'Lock Conversation' button is very close to the 'Start Conversation' button, when you're starting a Private Message - one or two people have now reported getting no replies to conversations - this may be what's happened in these cases..

Be careful.

The new forum is awful. Clunky slow and overcomplicated. I stopped contributing ages ago now I've stopped even looking.
It's a forum for gods sake! An exchange of ideas and thoughts through the medium of the written word. I can't even view it at workplace locations.
it was good while it lasted.

I don't know whether you will read this or not, guessing not if you've stopped even looking, but i kind of agree with you there. I thought the 'slow' thing was just my clunking heap-o-shite pc.

I preferred the simplicity of the 'old' forum as well, but surely you must appreciate that the Governator has to think about all potential users and cater for them accordingly? All the recent talk about 'responsive style' whatchamacallits means the square root of bo diddly squat to me, for example, but if it means something to someone else, then that must rank in importance to make the place open and accessible to the 'exchange of ideas and thoughts through the medium of the written word' for all, don't it?

I'm only writing this coz i was thinking the other day about the people who used to contribute quite a bit who similarly seem to have ceased contributing - i even thought about posting in the 'Missing Persons' thread about it, but thought better of it in case i missed somebody out and they felt left out because of it. Yes i am an over-analysing idiot, thanks for asking. You were one of the people i did think of by the way - a contrary voice, for me anyway, is more welcome than most, the more furious the better.

I say 'kind of' agree with you because i'm happy enough to just go with the flow - if things must change well so be it. We're all still connected to this town of ours though, ain't we? Clunky, slow and uncomplicated that it is. :)

Is it just me, or has the text font size on the main page gone a bit on the absolutely tiny side?
