And just as a note regarding the "earlier one" article link above - That's not necessarily a fair article.
Sorry, I didn't actually read that one, it just came up with a search for the later, more relevant, one.

I'm a contractor that's out of pocket because of McCarthy (low life) and I think it's a good idea to go to the office ON MASS and get some attention. . . . . . .

I still don't understand how what they've done is legal, if they are the same company they owe the same debts. Surely you can't transfer away all the tenants to the new firm yet leave all the debts behind and say tough ****?

Regardless, I own a house now so will never need them, but I'll certainly try to dissuade anyone else I know from dealing with them.

I don't understand it either, but apparently it is legal. What annoys me more than anything, is the lies. I was told I couldn't get my money back because mcarthey had 'run away, totally disappeared' with it all so there was no hope. Now I discover that was a total lie! It makes me so angry, you don't know who you can trust. Also, on the creditors list, there were pages and pages of how much he owed, and he seems to have taken out massive loans, one for > £100, 000 just before GDH went down, he knew what was happening. It is the same company, just a different name. If it was a totally new company, (different owner basically, nothing at all to do with the previous one) then I would be more sympathetic towards them.

If they transfer the tenants, they transfer the debt in my eyes. I still say repeated kicking off at the offices will ensure prospective tenants and landlords steer clear, I ****ing hate thieves regardless of how legal they make it.

The liquidators have recently sent out a letter to creditors basically saying they are now washing their hands of this whole thing as no one is getting back to them and they are unable to get in touch with Dan McCarthy and they are not going to get paid for the liquidation they have gone through. If any creditors can get together £10,000 the liquidators will take Dan McCarthy to court for everyone.
This is second hand info for me though so I can't give any more detail than that.

I have the same letter vault girl you are spot on!
If they were to try hard enough they could contact him, he is still involved with the business! Im sure with a little gentle persuasion someone could give a home address!

Hi everyone

According to my LL Turner is no more! They have no office, and haven't told any tenants or LLs about it, mine was walking through town when he noticed they had shut down! He was rather angry and is currently looking for a new agent and has asked us to stop payments to turner. Just thought I would say since a lot of LL probably don't know and therefore need to find a new agent.

I've heard that they *are* still going which is why they haven't told anyone, they are looking for a new office. They must still be collecting post etc from the office. Perhaps call the mobiles? (not sure what the numbers are...)

I can pass on a mobile number for a member of their staff if anyone to message me for it. It's actually posted in the window of the closed down Bridge street office (or was).

Assuming all landlords are buying residential property owners cover for your buildings Insurance you will almost certainly be entitled to legal advice.

Most half decent landlords policies provide legal expenses insurance which often extends to tenancy / contract disputes and in some circumstances rental guarantee.

Check your policies out as this is a valuable extension of cover.

I've finally been past the office in the last few days and had a look at the posters in the window. It is indeed a notice of possession so basically Mr McCarthy has kicked his own business out of the office.

Handy that, wonder if he'll open a new business in the same vein but with a different name? And transfer all the tenants/Landlords without really telling them whats going on, and carry on like nothing has happened but without any debt.....

Regardless of the lagalities they are still thieving scum, I'll never deal with any firm in that office as I know who'll be behind it.
