How to encourage people to set an avatar?

OK, it renders incompletely, best have another look................

Right I've had a look, the image is less than the minimum 200 x 200 pixels, yet it is too big for the avatar space. Confused now!

Looks OK to me. :)

If you don't like the way that it is cropped in the thread view (i.e. here, next to your name), just upload a square version. If you're not sure how to do this, the easiest way (although I'm happy to be corrected) is probably just to click on the little avatar here to view the full size version, right-click on that to save it to your computer, then re-upload it. Since the new one is square, it shouldn't be cropped. :)

Like Vienna, avatars mean nothing to me. On all forums I frequent, I'm familiar with a name, not a picture, but then I don't necessarily read the name correctly - I think I just recognise it by how the letters have been structured rather than take in the name. If I ever make the conscious effort to read them out in my mind, a lot of the time they're not actually pronounced how I subconsciously thought they were.

Yours sincerely

I wonder if we share relatives

Just sometimes

But not in an unlawful way

Until i made such an effort, i always thought citricsquid was criticsquid, thus kind of expecting the aforementioned to be determined to 'sift mosquitoes' at the slightest provocation with all tentacles blazing.

After this exercise, the cephalopod in question became much more lemony - or even worse limey, as i once made the mistake of ordering a ceviche de pulpo, the eating of which haunts me to this day.

Then

appeared.

Which was, on the whole, a much more satisfactory state of affairs.

I have taken the liberty of finding a higher quality version of your avatar, @kyoto49 (after using TinEye to figure out what it was), and editing it so that it is square, which means it won't be cropped by The Forum and will display in all its glory in all locations. I hope that's OK! If not, please let me know and I will refer to the old one. :)

paging @Hetairoi to this thread ;)

(purely because you are an active forumite and start a lot of threads, so the place would look better if you had a proper avatar rather than the default blue question mark :P )

i have just realised what captainpish's avatar is, and literally LOLed (ok, it was more of a chuckle, but i don't think COL will catch on):

did you get that from google, @captainpish or do you actually own that signed photo? if it's the latter, colour me jealous..

1. Mine - Glam - going out of my mind.
2. Withnail - the very lovely Richard E Grant and that Mcgann bloke.
3. Colin Grigson - The wonderful Rick mayall.
4. Cookie Monster.
5. Basil!
6. Age'd Parent.
7. Our very own John Marwood in just 1 of his many disguises on here.
8. AC Poynton - the pig (not calling him 1, just the avatar)!!
9. Shoes.
10. WMR Computers.
11. The lovely and fragrant Jade Clothing.

Missed a few, but not bad for someone who has now been blessed with very poor short term memory.
