Thanks both - I have spoken to my doctor yes, he's given me some advice and a few techniques to try - I go through ups and downs, right now it's definitely a down

Hopefully things will pick up - just need to try and put right the things which aren't good at the moment

Thanks again

I haven't slept properly for about 3 weeks now :(

Too many unhappy things in my life to be able to forget about them...
I use a form of self hypnosis which consists of breathing deeply and saying "RE"
to myself when inhaling and "LAX" on exhaling. It works for me, give it a go.

Drugs.

Drugs can help.

Not necessarily the drugs that that Mr.Nice Mr.Clegg be on about - but drugs nonetheless.

Drugs are good - especially when you can gets them in a Chemists and not down some shady-alley-sort-of-malarkey.

Choose Drugs. Choose Sleep.

Im also a sufferer, especialy when I have worries & in summer months.

Sometimes I find it easier to just accept the fact that I only need to sleep for a couple of hours & I just get up & try to get on with being busy (helps me to stop thinking) although I know this isnt that helpfull when you feel like a zombie.

All of @John Marwood suggestions are spot on - including writing down your problems/worries. Sometimes I will write them in two columns, ones that I can do something about & ones I have no control over, then write down what you are going to do to fix the things you can fix, & in the other column write down how you feel about the things that you cant change & what you can do to change how you feel rather than solve the problem/worry.

Above all, I dont give in to falling asleep in the day, & try to stick to a routine of what times you go to bed & get up...

I've tried writing things down - it does help, as at least you've got an outlet for what's on your mind

I struggle all year round - there are a couple of specific things that get to me which keep me awake worrying, and I usually end up thinking about everything else under the sun while I'm at it... on the plus side I have come up with some great ideas for photo shoots in the middle of the night, but I do spend most of the following day at work in full zombie mode

Ive read this thread since it started but didnt want to jinx my sleep by replying to it...(stupidly suspicious I know).

Summer is worse for me, as if the insomnia doesnt get me - then the early light & bird noise does!

Another night trying to sleep - gave up, got up and listened and watched vintage music channel - great stuff. Got an away day at work tmw can't stop thinking about it. I don't think it going to be very exciting talking about how well we've done over the last year and where we are going in the future. I'll probably doze off half way through and miss something vitally important.
I think that it might be work related stress.

I think the punishment for shooting dead a barking dog at 5am should be the return of the bullet

The owner deserves it more, reason is beyond them

Work related stress is a massive problem - dentists recognise this as the wearing down of gnashed gnashers becomes widespread

Even the nuns are leaving

Insomnia again, argh, it's been a big problem for me all last week, I didn't sleep at all on Sunday night, got up several times had coconut flavored hot choc drink lovely flavour but didn't do anything to help me sleep. I was surprised that i stayed awake on Monday, Just plodded through the day in a sort of day dream.

Got sleeping tablets from GP now, just got to work out when to take them. Maybe I'll take them at 9 and hope they start to make me feel drowsy about 11. Thanks Stafford forum for being there for me to have a whinge about it.

Hope the tablets work for you @arthur - I've been awake too, no insomnia, just a horrible cough & sore throat :(

Lot of it about at the mo, I've been suffering something chronic this week. No sympathy though, don't they realise I've got Manbola?

I'm a raving insomniac. Something I was prescribed to help was an antihistamine called Atrax. It contains sedative properties, it's non addictive and has few side effects. It does work, clearly I haven't taken it tonight though! I haven't made it to bed before 4.00am for as long as I can remember, often I don't bother and try to catch up in the day, a luxury I know most don't have.

Wish I knew how people just close their eyes and go to sleep all night. After lying there ages , no sign of going to sleep and hubby snoring his head off,I've been back up again the last hour.

Now bored as I'm supposed to be on a diet and can't start eating everything in the cupboards for something to do.
