New Birmingham to Manchester rail route

It seems that nobody down south has realised that nobody up north benefits, unless of course they live in one of the few places to get a station. To me it looks like they've just decided where they'd quite like to commute to from London for the odd meeting and plonked the stations there, but what would I know?

I suspect that they are more than well aware of just who will receive the benefits.

I am considering building a railway in my back room - I will be giving it more consideration than this may have had..

Chuffed (not) to bits to get home from work at 2200 to find this thing is 35 metres from my house in Hopton.

Managed to miss the golf course, I see.

Might get rid of that nasty bend, too.
I think it cuts through the golf course which is south of that covert

But I maybe mishtaken

I am sure it does avoid Sir Christoper Wren's creation , something the dry not did not

A report on the Deathwatch Beetle infestation from Demaus Building Diagnostics following a “Microbore” inspection of the roof beams suggested that “given the level of degradation found, it is possible that a sudden failure could occur”. Consequently the PCC were forced to close the church to ensure public safety.

I am acquainted with the vicar from back then and well recall the consternation that occurred at the time..

The problem with High Speed rail (other than the gargantuan cost) is that for it be High Speed it needs to stop in as few places as possible. It is therefore fine if you happen to be of considerable means and you live in a major city but for somewhere like Staffordshire we just get all of the downside of the construction hassle and then the Countryside blight without any of the advantages of being able to easily access the service. If you live in Stafford and want to travel north or south it certainly won't make your journey faster if you have to travel to Manchester or Birmingham first to get on the flippin' thing.

What would be best for Staffordshire would be for a HS2 station in Stoke rather than the proposed one in Crewe. The choice of Crewe is little more than a throw back to the Victorian rail revolution that had Crewe as a hub. We are told that this is an entirely new line fit for this century so why choose Crewe on this basis? It makes no sense.
A new, purpose built HS2 station in Stoke would make more sense and it isn't as if there isn't space or enough brownfield land in Stoke to accommodate - it could perhaps even be a central station in the middle of the new Hanley development

We will pay for this several times, it seems.

We'll pay to build it.

We'll pay for the consequences of it being built here.

We'll pay for it again, as it sucks resources from the railway that we can use - etc.

Just like most politicians - there is no thought for the continent, or rather how us hillbilly types can make haste there
