Sounds like a good idea if you don't mind your customers running the gauntlet past all the cherry pickers and the maze of temporary fencing.

Is it finally finished, though? I have yet to walk past with there being no work of some description going on. It is hugely unsurprising that they have thus far not managed to attract anyone in.

Not even 'Bookstones' or 'All Bar Ten'.

Preliminary work will now start on site in June 2009 in anticipation of this key regeneration project for the town, which will bring massive investment to the area and create hundreds of new jobs, with completion of the development scheduled for late 2010.

A total of 1,750 county council staff will be moving from other old and expensive-to-maintain properties to the new central office, which will provide the centrepiece of the town’s transformation to a thriving business and retail centre.

That's been gone a while now.

It's only in the last week or so that we've not had a cherry picker, though I admit they've not been there in the numbers that they were earlier in the year. Similarly with the fencing - it's been there up until recently but just not as much.

Despite saying in January that the new Marrisons is going ahead despite store closures then the rumour mill is abound with news that the Kingsmead site will be an Aldi instead - anyone else head that?

I"m sure that there is another thread somewhere about the rumours, but I heard that it was going to be a Lidl.

Aldi is already building opposite the Radford Bank & on the Stone Rd opposite Northfield Village, I can't see why we would need a third Aldi ?!

I had read somewhere that Morrisons are tied in to opening the new store, regardless of job cuts.

This makes more sense, maybe they will flatten the existing Lidl to make way for the relief road that's planned for right next to it...

I agree. Also I'm pretty sure when Morrisons build a new supermarket it usually has a hoarding outside saying 'Your new Morrisons opening......'
Not seen one anywhere.
